I stayed on the balcony long after Damiano left. His hand still felt warm against mine. It was ridiculous. After everything that had happened the secrets, the lies, the people who wanted me dead,my mind should have been focused on finding Rafael and understanding what my mother had hidden. Instead, I kept thinking about Damiano. The way he’d looked at me. The way he’d held my hand. And the things he hadn’t said. I sighed and leaned against the railing. “Get a grip, Elena.” “Talking to yourself now?” I nearly jumped. I turned around. Damiano stood in the doorway. “You scared me.” He smiled. “Didn’t mean to.” “Then why are you back?” He shrugged. “I forgot something.” “What?” He walked toward me. “You.” I stared at him. He laughed softly. “Your reaction is adorable.”
