6. Get Her Back

1683 Words
Luke was about to get out of his car when his cell phone suddenly rang. His movement to open the door stopped, he chose to check his cell phone first. When he realized who was trying to call him, he immediately picked up the call. "Yes, Sarah, what's up?" Luke asked as he poked his face through the window, looking at the flat he was about to visit. "She knows, she knows about everything." On the other side, Sarah was screaming. Her loud voice startled Luke for a moment. "Wait a minute, what are you talking about? Please speak softly." "Your wife, Luke. She knows about me. She knows that you're having an affair with me." Sarah's words made Luke's back instantly tense. He sat up with his eyes blinking. "What did you say, you met Grace? When?" "Two days ago." "Where?" "At the bar. I didn't realize it was her. She looked so disheveled that I had a hard time recognizing her. It took me a few seconds to realize that it was her, your wife." Luke rubbed his forehead as Sarah spoke at a rapid pace. "Slow down, Sarah. What happened after that?" "She knew I was messing with you. She looked a little drunk, but she was right. Ah, anyway, I was very upset. I felt humiliated by her at the bar that night." Luke let out a long sigh. "And what did you say to her?" "I denied it, then I left. I've wanted to tell you about this since yesterday, but I've been so busy, I've been working a lot. I can only be free now. Where are you? Let's meet somewhere." "Grace already knows everything, Sarah. Look, I can't see you right now. I have some business." "What? You didn't explain anything to me about that." "I just said that." "No, Luke. I need more explanation. We should meet. Let's make a schedule. When are you free?" "I don't know." Luke groaned softly. His head suddenly felt dizzy. "Never mind, I'm leaving." "Wait a minute, I want to talk to you." "Not now, Sarah." "Just five minutes, no more. I promise." Luke shook his head even though he knew that Sarah couldn't see him. He said, "I told you that I couldn't. I'm hanging up now. Bye, Sarah." "Luke, you—" Luke didn't care about Sarah's words anymore. He had already disconnected the phone unilaterally. Then, he exhaled deeply, then put his cell phone in his jacket pocket. He was not serious with that woman. Sarah shouldn't expect much from him. Luke had never been serious with any woman other than Grace. Yes, he knew he cheated a lot and it hurt his wife, it had become such a habit that it was hard to let go, but Grace was Luke's place to go. Grace is his home. And now, his home was being destroyed to the point where Luke was like a homeless quarterback. This is so wrong, it shouldn't be like this. Grace shouldn't have closed her heart to Luke. Luke was sorry, but he knew he was wrong. Grace was already disappointed in him. His wife found it hard to forgive him again. But one thing, Luke didn't want to give up just yet. Yeah, Luke knew that Grace was asking for a separation from him. But, divorce is something that Luke doesn't want. From the bottom of his heart, he still loved his wife very much. He wasn't lying. Only to Grace, Luke could feel calm, but as it happened, he was too often hurting her feelings. Until finally, here Luke was. He immediately got out of his car, then went upstairs to his wife's flat. What happened yesterday was really bad, and Luke intends to come again to try again in the hope that Grace will listen to his words. That hope was still there even though he realized that it was unlikely that his wife would forgive and accept him again, especially with the fact that yesterday Luke had shouted loudly and spoke to Grace with harsh words. Something that certainly hurt her feelings. Luke wanted to make things right. If he still had another chance. And he didn't want to give up, he would persistently talk to Grace, this time with full awareness and the hope that he would not go too far to speak harshly to his wife. Six years of marriage is not a small amount of time. They've been through a lot together. From good to bad, laughter and tears, joy and sorrow. No, Luke didn't want his marriage to Grace to just run aground. He still wanted to keep it. Now, after arriving at the door of his wife's flat, Luke knocked three times. To his surprise, Grace opened the door early. Grace's face immediately tensed up when she realized who was now visiting. At the sight of Luke's face, Grace was about to close the flat door again, but her husband held her back. "Grace, wait a minute—" "What do you want? I told you to leave and not come back here!" Grace cut off Luke's words immediately and firmly. "Please, don't close the door, give me time to talk to you. I won't hurt you, I promise." "You've hurt me more than you realize. The only thing you can do is get as far away from me as you can. That's what I need. That's the way to keep you from hurting me again." Luke shook his head slowly. "Grace, I'm begging you. I won't be long, I promise you." "What do you want? Speak right now." "Not with you still half-hiding behind the door. I want to talk seriously. Face-to-face with you. Not like this, please..." Grace still didn't move. She stared at Luke blankly. Of course, she still hated that man. Especially now that she is looking at his face, she will remember all the depraved things Luke did to her. She had closed her heart tightly for him. There is no more chance for Luke to enter her heart. Never. "Go home, Luke. I don't want you here." "We're two married people. Come on, come home with me, husband and wife are supposed to live together. Not like this. I'm sure you don't feel at home in a small, shabby place like this." Grace laughed softly. "You know, I'd rather live in a small and shitty place than live with you. Get out of my life, Luke. There's no chance for you." "Everybody makes mistakes, Grace. And everyone needs a chance. I've said sorry to you many times. Do you want me to do it again this time?" "You think I don't know about that?" "And if you know, why don't you understand my current situation?" "Luke, look, everyone makes mistakes, I understand this. But only serious people deserve to be forgiven. And you?" Grace laughed softly. "You've made a lot of mistakes, and I've forgiven you. But you're not a serious person. You take my words for granted. One more thing, I know everyone deserves a chance. And I've given you many chances, but you've squandered them, Luke. In short, I've given you everything you need, but you never want to change. I'm only human, Luke. I'm not a super hero, I can get tired at any time. Even super heroes can get tired." Luke moistened his dry lips, then he replied. "I know, I know I've made a lot of mistakes. But I beg you once again, Give me a chance to fix everything." "So what will happen after that? You will break the promise you made. It will always be like that because you never take yourself seriously, Luke." "I don't want us to—" Luke sighed softly when his cell phone rang. His words were interrupted. He checked briefly, then regretted doing so. Sarah was calling him again. Luke had no intention of picking up the call. Luke ignored it. And he was serious, if Sarah tried to contact him again this time, he would block her number. "Who's calling you? Your mistress?" Grace quipped. Grace's words hit Luke in the solar plexus because they hit the nail on the head. But he chose to remain silent. Grace had been hurt too deeply, and the wounds she had suffered had not even healed. Seeing and facing Luke, who was the culprit, made Grace unable to bear it. "No more chances for you, Luke. Goodbye." Quickly, Grace closed the door. This time, she succeeded. Luke could not prevent it. The sound of the door slamming shut was immediate and powerful. Grace propped herself up on the doorframe, then she slumped down and hugged her knees. She cried, tears falling from her eyes. Grace buried her face. She tried not to let her cries be heard because she was sure that Luke was still behind the door. Luke did not leave immediately. He was still standing with his hands clenched tightly. He failed to reach Grace. Feeling that he had no chance to meet his wife again, he chose to leave. He will try it another time. For the time being, he will leave Grace alone, she needs peace. Luke hasn't given up yet, he will come back another time. Then, Luke remembered about Rex. His anger immediately erupted when he remembered him. Suddenly, Luke realized that he had to meet Rex. Luke wanted to beat the man up. According to Luke, Rex is one of the reasons why his marriage to Grace is on the brink of death. And that's where Luke went, there he drove with his car, heading to where Rex was currently located. Beating Rex would at least give him the satisfaction of being stressed and full of pressure. The man would be the perfect object of venting, that's what he thought. "Rex, wait, I'll come and smash your face." Luke smiled wryly and slammed the car door as soon as he got into the car. And at full speed, Luke drove off in his car. Rex was his destination now.
