2. It Is Impossible To Misrecognize

1519 Words
Grace knew that this time she needed to take the right action when she saw her husband walk into the hotel and book a room with a strange woman she didn't recognize. And that's when she knew that Luke never really wanted to change. He never took his words seriously, saying that he would never cheat on her again. Bullshit always came out of his mouth. And now it has been proven. Without another thought, Grace went straight home and packed up all her things, putting them in a random, disorganized suitcase. Then, she waited for Luke to come home, which took a lot of time. But that didn't stop Grace from canceling the decision she had thought through. So, when Luke finally arrived home, Grace exploded. She was furious with her husband. The deep disappointment she felt made her chest feel like a hole had been punched through it. It was so painful. Luke really didn't want to change for her. And she realized, once men cheat on their husbands, they will do it again in the future. That's exactly what Luke did. Every time Luke was caught cheating, Grace stayed in the marriage. But as time went on, his attitude towards her became more and more insolent and arbitrary. His apologies are just f*****g bullshit. He still continued to play with other women, flirting with them, asking them out on dates, and eventually asking them to sleep together. And Luke always succeeded in doing that. Fed up with her husband's unchanging behavior, tired of being hurt over and over again, and angry that Luke wouldn't listen to her, Grace came to a final, inviolable decision. She would walk out of Luke's life. She would leave him forever. Divorce was the path she would take. And for her, it was the right choice. Her heart was already broken, and it was difficult to accept him again. By now, Grace had been at the bar since an hour ago. She didn't know how many glasses she had drunk. Her head was spinning, but she didn't want to stop drinking. She was still strong. Maybe being drunk was better than being fully conscious. If she was sober, Luke would keep popping up in her head. When she was drunk, she didn't have time to think about that bastard. Let alone thinking about him, just remembering him seemed impossible if she was drunk. Grace was about to raise her glass again, but a woman who suddenly sat beside her made her pause her movement. Observing the woman with blinking eyes, Grace finally knew who she was. Obviously, the woman didn't know who Grace was. Very sure of what she thought, Grace now straightened up. She stared at the woman with blinking eyes, immediately ignoring her glass. There was no mistaking it. It was her. The woman finally realized that Grace kept staring at her with a horrified and unusual look, leaving her confused and wondering herself. "I'm sorry, can I help you?" The woman asked Grace in a polite voice. Confusion clearly colored her face. Moreover, the gaze Grace was casting in her direction would make her uncomfortable if it continued. Grace tried to focus even though her head was getting dizzy, like something had hit it. If the woman had appeared before Grace had drunk so much, of course she would have been fully conscious and able to talk to the strange woman much more clearly. "I've seen you." Grace finally said. She looked deeper and deeper at the strange woman. Confused by Grace's words, the woman frowned slightly, then shifted her sitting position slightly. Grace's words completely caught her attention until she now returned Grace's gaze, which was staring at her with a gaze that seemed terrible to her, as if Grace wanted to eat her right now. Especially now, coupled with Grace's words, that really made her dumbfounded. Trying to remain relaxed in response to Grace's words, the woman finally replied, "Are you sure you're not mistaken? I—" "You're having an affair with my husband." Grace immediately cut her off, which immediately made the woman frown, feeling confused and not understanding Grace's words. "I-I don't know what you mean. I'm sorry, you seem to have the wrong person." The woman was now completely uncomfortable with the baseless accusations Grace had leveled at her. "I can't be mistaken, I'm sure it's you. I know you, I remember your face. You did have an affair with my husband. You can't deny it!" Grace said it sharply and passionately. The tone of voice that Grace used was very thick and loud. Many pairs of eyes were immediately drawn to her. And the woman who was talking to Grace was, of course, dragged and stared at. It made her even more uncomfortable, to be honest. "You're drunk. I don't know what you're saying. I don't know you, and we just met. You're making me feel humiliated. Please watch your language." The woman was about to stand up after saying that, but Grace suddenly pulled her hand away. "I'm not done talking to you yet." "I don't want to talk to you. You're drunk and bothering me. Let go of me!" The woman immediately jerked away Grace's hand, which was arbitrarily pulling on hers. Then, the woman walked away from the bar. Grace was pretty sure that the woman was her husband's girlfriend or something. Anyway, she was having an affair with him. Grace didn't know if she was so drunk that she was babbling incoherently, or if the woman was actually lying, that what she was saying was actually true. Grace now feels embarrassed. Especially since she now realizes that all the pairs of eyes in the bar are still staring at her. Not wanting to stay here, Grace finally paid for her order with a blush on her cheeks, then staggered out of the bar. Now she realizes that she was drunk. Her vision was blurred and foggy. Balancing her steps was a challenge. Grace needed to rest. She needed a bed. But, she needed to walk to her flat, which happened to be not far from the bar she had visited on this cold night. Grace had made a mistake. She shouldn't have gone to the bar alone. Apart from looking miserable with no friends, she would have a hard time if she was drunk. And that was exactly what she was experiencing now. Her steps became more and more unsteady and uncontrollable until, finally, the unfortunate incident happened. She tripped over something until she fell so badly on the sidewalk. Groaning in annoyance, Grace realized that her hand was blistered. But the blood that came out didn't hurt much. Falling down and being stared at by passersby was more embarrassing. She needed to get out of here. Grace deftly pulled out her stilettos. Walking would be much easier if her feet were bare. She tried to get up and walk again, but her vision was even worse. What she saw seemed to blur. The light from the many lamps crisscrossed, merged, and made her eyes hurt. Not to mention her head was thumping from dizziness. After just one step of trying to walk again, Grace almost fell down for the second time. Fortunately, there was a lamppost to hold onto. "Hey, are you okay?" Someone's voice blocked Grace's ears. She was looking down until her face was almost invisible because it was covered with her floppy and quite disheveled hair. For a moment, she was stunned. She recognized that voice. She used to hear that type of voice so often that it was impossible for her to forget it. Then, to make sure she was not mistaken, Grace quickly looked up. She tried to find the face of the person who was talking to her, someone she was sure she recognized. But, that wasn't easy to do when she was not in the best physical condition. Grace rarely got drunk, but that didn't mean she never did, and this time, she was upset with herself, regretting that getting drunk had been her choice when her marriage to Luke was falling apart, which she was sure was going to be completely and irretrievably lost. She made a mistake again. She shouldn't have gone to the bar and gotten drunk like this, but if she hadn't been in such a drunken state, she wouldn't have heard the melodious voice of that person, which she was sure she recognized. Although she couldn't clearly see who it was because Grace was so drunk, she was sure that it was Rex's voice. Hoarse, slightly wet, and deep. That voice only belonged to Rex, her ex from college, before she left him and married the cheating bastard Luke. "Rex, is that you?" Grace asked. She tried to stand up straight again, so arrogant that she thought she didn't need a lamppost, but after just two seconds of standing, she couldn't balance her body. Before Grace could get an answer, she had already fallen asleep, swimming in the unconsciousness that had picked her up.
