The villa was lavish, worth at least ten million.
Renee walked up the stairs. From the slightly open door came muffled, intimate moans.
Two pale bodies pressed closely together.
"Take it easy, my period isn't over yet," Vivian murmured.
Adrian kissed her tenderly, his eyes soft in a way Renee had never seen before.
"Don't worry, I won't do anything. Just hold you and sleep," he whispered.
Vivian pouted. "And if you can't resist? Won't you still go back to your wife?"
A flash of impatience crossed Adrian's eyes.
"I don't want to touch her. Beyond marital duties, I can't. Seeing her normally just feels… dirty."
Renee stepped back uncontrollably, her chest tightening with pain.
Vivian quickly sent a voice message.
Vivian: You saw it just now, right? He'd rather hold me while I'm on my period than go back to you. You probably don't know, we even had a child before, lost due to a miscarriage.
Renee's heart went numb. How could she not know? The divorce papers had stated clearly that Adrian wanted her out because Vivian was pregnant.
She typed a line and sent it.
Renee: As you wish. I don't want this man.
Renee went to her lawyer to draft a new divorce papers, nothing extravagant, just an equal split.
If it went to court, Adrian was at fault and would lose even more. But she didn't want a war. She just wanted to get away from the chaos.
Her first priority was to get Adrian to sign the divorce papers. She sent Vivian another message.
Renee: If you can make him sign the divorce papers, he's yours.
Two days later, Adrian returned home. He looked well-fed and satisfied, but his gaze toward Renee was as cold as ever. "What's the matter? You look drained."
Renee hesitated, then shook her head. "Nothing."
At that moment, a deliveryman knocked on the door.
"The seven-year anniversary flowers you ordered… we're sorry the blue roses didn't arrive the other day. Here's your replacement. Happy anniversary."
A large bouquet of vibrant blue roses was handed to Adrian. He froze for a moment, turning back, confused. "Sorry, I forgot… it was our…"
Renee shot him a cold glance. "Apologies are too late. Some things, once missed, are gone."
Adrian reached to take her hand, a hint of charm in his voice. "Come on, it's just a late bouquet. Don't be upset. I was busy at work and forgot. I'll make it up to you."
Renee ignored him, dropping the flowers on the table.
Adrian froze. That shred of guilt evaporated instantly. "Renee, you're not usually like this," he said.
Renee stopped, turned to him. "What should I be?"
'Obedient? Grateful for every word he spoke? Thankful for his empty promise?'
"It's just an anniversary, not New Year's. Does the formality really matter? Fine," Adrian waved impatiently. "I'll make it up today. Go change, we'll head to the mall."
He turned and went downstairs.
Renee's frustration swelled inside her. Still, maybe she should make herself clear.
The moment she stepped into the elevator, the lights went out. Her heart leapt into her throat. The alarm button didn't work.
She tried calling Adrian. The line was dead. Then came a text.
Adrian: Something came up. Stay home.
Renee froze.
Immediately after, Vivian's messaged came.
Vivian: Renee, my cramps are bad. He's coming to rub my stomach. Your anniversary is ruined again.
Renee shivered. She had claustrophobia, and the elevator could fall at any moment.
She frantically messaged Adrian.
Renee: Adrian, I'm trapped in the elevator! Call maintenance, I don't have the number!
Renee: Adrian, help me! It's too dark, please!
But Adrian didn't respond.
A sudden rumble, and the elevator plummeted.
Renee screamed, then blacked out.
