Surprise Boss

I confirmed my acceptance to the offer and not long after I received another Email to come for an interview the next day with an Address.

I was so excited, I couldn’t even hide it because the glow on my face the next day was totally different. Grace had given me an orientation on how to reply to questions and the Do’s and Don’ts of a job interview.

“Make sure you think before you talk Anne and don’t hesitate to say thank you when necessary , you must be polite as f**k”

These were words from my friend.

Oh dear ! I had mixed feelings about this offer, could it be genuine? Did I actually get the job?… oh well, I took a chill pill… Que será será , what ever will be , will be ……

I wore a black gown and held a red bag besides it complimented my hair color. I hugged Grace who spent the night with me, entered a taxi and left for the Grayson’s. The ride was about twenty minutes long and shortly the Taxi driver stopped at a very large gate and asked for payment.

I was very surprised because i had never seen such a beautiful setting for a company before in my life and if not for anything one would think It was a five star hotel because the settings was standard.

“Please sir aren’t you going to go in to drop me at the entrance of the building” I asked politely.

“No ma’am, they do not allow public transport in, only those working in the company are allowed to drive in” the taxi man replied .

“Oh dear! Thank you for the information sir” I replied and payed the taxi man, I walked through the gate and told the Security about my appointment, they asked for the appointment letter and I showed it to them through my iPad. After thorough scrutinization, I was granted Access .

I entered the main building and that was the block buster for me, I couldn’t believe my eyes, everything was so beautiful and organized, everyone was busy and it was as if nobody noticed me.

“It seems as though this company is all about its business” I thought while walking straight to the secretary who was sitting at a distance ahead from the door of entrance.

“Good morning ma’am my name is Stella Stones and I was told to come for an interview this morning “ I said, the secretary went through her computer and asked me to go to the Elevator by the left and head to room 306 where I would be attended to . I thanked her and left for the elevator, I got to room 306 and sat down. After waiting for about 30 minutes a man in black suit came to attend to me, he was the personal Assistant of the CEO of the Grayson’s. I greeted him and we shook hands .

“Welcome Miss Stella, my name is Antony Lewis, I would be interviewing you this morning ”he said with a smile on his face.

“Thank you Mr Antony” I replied and we went into bussiness . After a series of questions and answers, the interview came to an end and Antony being satisfied with my answers,he asked me to resume work fully in two days.

He told me to use the next day to prepare as my work was very demanding and I needed to be early and always ready to work at any given time of the day .

“Thank you so much sir, this really means a lot to me, I’m grateful” I replied with a smile on her face that she couldn’t hide . I left the company and went to the grocery store to get a bottle of champagne. I also called Grace to be sure she was still in my house because that was her day off work and she was .

“I got the job baby girl! I’m so elated !!” I said as I popped the champagne open.

“Girl, this is huge, I bet you never knew I applied to the Grayson’s when I came into this town and was Job hunting too, I wasn’t accepted but you got yours on a platter of gold, now that’s something” she replied, she collected a tulip glass from the counter and filled her cup with the champagne.

“It’s a true saying that every disappointment is a blessing because you lost hope when those companies you applied to didn’t take you but see what it did ? It opened the door for the best” she added while making a toast. “Cheers to getting a house, a job and a wonderful work experience, may this new Job grant you your heart desires and give you a sexy man to hold on to ” she chuckled.

“Thanks baby, not to sure about the last statement” I said laughing at my funny friend . We drank and danced merrily and when it was evening Grace left for her house to be able to prepare for her work the next day because her off day was over .

I settled in my Sofa and brought out my iPad , googled about the Grayson’s just to be a little bit familiar with the company I’m working with and there were indeed a lot of praises showered on the company , but scrolling downwards , there were controversy about the CEO and he was called strange and dangerous, a lot of people anonymously complained that there was something wrong with him . At first, I was scared but of course I wasn’t one to go by what people said ,I immediately closed the tab,took down meaningful notes and in the process slept off . I woke up at about 9:22am the next day and decided to go shopping, to get a few things.

I wore a black baggy shirt, ash sweatpants and a pair of black Palms, I needed to be very comfortable. I had coffee and toasted bread for breakfast and left for Walmart, I wrote down a list of the wears I wanted so that I didn’t have to spend more than my budget .

I bought two pair of dresses, One was a red pencil gown which was three quarter in length and had a slit by the side which showed a little bit of her thigh and paired it up with a black pencil heels . The other dress was a dark blue flare gown which was short and it was paired up with a nude high heels . I wasn’t tall, a 5feet girl needed heels to enhance her height always, hardly was I ever seen on a flat shoe but i owned a few .

I also bought a bag big enough to carry files just incase i needed to take some home, Two pair of trousers, Four T-shirt’s and a blazer. I paid for them and left for home.

Taking the advice of Mr Antony I had a sanitation at home and arranged the clothes properly in my wardrobe . I called my mum and told her about the new job I had gotten and mom was very happy for me.

“I’m quite amazed that my daughter had her eyes on one of the biggest fishes in her state”my mom said making a remark on the news . I skeptical I’m telling my mom about the whole situation that surrounded the job because I didn’t know how she would react to it and if the news would be taken in a good way or a bad way. Also because my mom might insist I do not to go for the job because she believed in getting things by Merit not Favour and I wasn’t ready to throw this opportunity away. I simply thanked her and we spoke for a while longer after which she ended the call.

The Night came fast and I was luckily done with my chores, I became famished so I made pasta for dinner. after eating, I went to sleep immediately for Tomorrow was a very big day for me .

I woke up at about 6:00am and started preparing for work as I was told to resume work latest by 8:00am everyday and I had to be prompt to avoid queries or reduction in salary, although I wasn’t told how much I would be paid and most certainly I wasn’t bothered because I knew the pay wouldn’t be a bad one, besides Mr Antony told me that the salary would be disclosed to me after approval by the CEO.

Why must the CEO approve my salary? I thought. there were already fixed salaries for workers especially those starting off Newly ….

I wore the blue flare gown paired with the nude hill, took a black bag and left for work. The Taxi got there at about 7:30am, I paid him off and entered the company .

I went to the secretary and told her I had just been employed in the company .

“What’s your name ma’am?” the secretary asked .

“Stella Stones” I replied . There was evident shock in the secretary’s face as she was surprised to see the position given to me.

“You are the Secretary General…this is a new position in this company , we haven’t had a Secretary General before… and your office is right before the CEO’s that would be in office room 400” the secretary said again with greater shock .

I didn’t read meaning to what the secretary was trying to insinuate.

“Don’t be offended ma’am do you know the CEO on a personal ground?” The secretary asked again . I was surprised at the question but replied plainly that I had never even seen the CEO in my life and had no idea if it was a She or a he .

The secretary didn’t believe me obviously from her facial expression, she tried to concede it but failed woefully, I saw the look on the secretary’s face and laughed

“You really do not believe me?” I asked ..

“Well it’s so surprising because all jobs applications for this company has been treated for more than two months now, I was very surprised when you came in a day before yesterday for an interview” she said…

I was mesmerized at the information, how then did I get the job I wondered but I kept cool and simply smiled .

“Let’s just call it luck my dear, for I do not have a personal relationship with any one working here” I replied.

“My name is Jane , it’s nice to make your acquaintance “ the secretary said bringing forth her hands …:

“The pleasure is mine “ I replied after shaking her hands and left for the elevator leading to my office . I got to the office and it was so beautiful, I envisioned it to be nice but I didn’t think it would be this beautiful, it had a door and a window by the side

“That must probably be the CEO’s office” I thought . My chair and table was high class and opposite my desk at the far end of the wall in that big office, was a shelf with a lot of folders, I noticed a coffee and water dispenser placed towards the wall at the end of the office .

“ Good morning miss Stella” Mr Antony said as he entered the office unnoticed . I was startled by his voice but composed myself immediately.

“Good morning sir, how was your night? “ I asked but slapped myself at heart because I felt the question was informal .

Surprisingly, Mr Antony replied me “my night was fine , thank you miss Stella.” “I see you are getting familiar with your work space” he added.

“Yes sir” I replied .

“ No problem then, make your self comfortable and get Acquainted to it, The boss wouldn’t be available for a while so there would hardly be work for you for now, when he gets back I’m sure you would start work proper, is that understood ?”

“Yes sir” I replied.

“Another thing miss Stella, Call me Antony , we are colleagues now “ Mr Antony said .

Surprised, I simply nodded my head and he left the office . Through out the working hours I did nothing but take selfies .

4:00pm came quickly and I left for home . The next few days came by and I had become acquainted with my office, it was almost a week and the CEO wasn’t back from his trip, I became friends with Jane and usually went for lunch break with her.

One fateful afternoon Jane had called me to come to the canteen so we could eat lunch together. I tidied up my table and was about to leave the office when a man walked into the office. He had another man behind him holding his briefcase. He was tall and muscular and his suit was well fitted , I gave him a second glance and immediately lost balance my balance .

Oh my God!

He was the guy who I had a collision with a month back, I couldn’t believe my eyes.

What the f**k is going on here…. I said in my mind . I became very weak at knees and prayed not to be betrayed by my legs. He came closer and stood right in front of me and the atmosphere became really wierd, hot and suffocating for me.

“Can’t you greet miss Stella ?” He asked .

“Good af -ternoon sir” I managed to say, I had suddenly become a stammerer out of nowhere and was visibly shaking . He didn’t say anything but moved closer, too close that I could perceive the mint coming from his breathe.

“You need to work on your balance miss” he said , correcting my fidgeting body with one of his hands on my waist and the other on my shoulder, when he noticed I had balanced he left for his office .

I didn’t notice that he had gone, my eyes were shut and I was suddenly enwrapped in a feeling I couldn’t understand. His mint breathe had enveloped me. He had hypnotized me with his Aura.

I got a grip of myself shortly and rushed into the restroom . “what’s wrong with you Stella ? When did you start tripping over a man huh ?” I asked myself while taking in deep breath . Soon I stabilized and went straight to the canteen but I couldn’t get what had happen at the office off my head. The way a wave of electricity ran through my body when he touched my waist, how I became oblivious of my environment, his beautiful blue eyes ,his perfect white teeth, perfectly groomed beards and the way his height overshadowed mine.

“Hello…What’s on your mind Stella ?” Jane asked , taking me a short trip away from my thoughts .

“Oh! It’s nothing…” I replied … Jane had been talking to me but my attention was divided and she noticed. Never have I felt the way I did.
