I looked at her and then crawled in on my hands and knees. The door closed with a solid thump, and two heavy padlocks clicked shut.
She turned and walked away, leaving me shut in like a wild animal. Just before she left the chamber, I yelled.
“Thank you, Mistress Jenny. It really was a wonderful day.”
I know she heard me, but she didn’t acknowledge it. The chamber door closed, and the lights went out. I stayed on my hands and knees for a minute or two, staring out through the bars into the total darkness. There was silence in the air. I gingerly sat down and checked out my cozy abode.
