Split persona

"What?" Aiden asked, flustered by the change. He looked at Eleanor, his dear cousin, in shock because of the sudden change. She was royalty and it was..... ‘weird’ seeing her talking like that. But before Aiden could further question her, Cora stepped forward. "You okay?"  "Back off, would you?" She softened her tone, but her intimidating eyes were saying otherwise. It wasn’t how she usually was, but somehow it felt like this was her true self. Cora realised that and backed off towards Eleanor in a casual manner with hands behind her head. She wanted the show to go on, even if it was a bit annoying that she was left out as an extra. “Hey, you bastard, look here,” Elena said, when she saw that he kept looking behind her. She was angry with the sudden interest of his in someone none other than her friend. She sighed, then cleared her throat. “Look, you want someone in your bed, don’t you? Just go and find someone else. There are plenty maids and mistresses in this place, and besides….” She suddenly smirked, then stopped speaking and pointed at her lips, ‘Use someone else for your dirty deeds’. When Aiden read her lip gestures, blood drained from his face, but he soon regained composure. He couldn’t snap at her now, not when everything was going perfectly. He realised she was wavering, forgetting what their goal was. He decided to give a warning later. But, not now. “I understand, I apologise,” he breathed out, and excused himself before something else would happen. When he was gone, Eleanor ruffled her blonde hair with one hand and cussed. “Ah, f**k, that jerk is so impatient.” When she realised who was next to her, she shut her mouth and took a deep breath. She fixed her expressionless face and returned to her ‘normal’ self. She also noticed the plain suspicion written all over Cora’s face. If Elena had refrained from speaking any longer, Cora would have picked up what was going on. “That man likes doing things through dirty ways and when he heard about your…… relationship with the king, he thought of using you.” “I know”, Cora replied, smiling. Eleanor’s eyes widened, but soon after she was smiling too. Although she was glad that Cora knew about this, Elena was also happy about the fact that she hadn’t guessed what their true purpose was. While the thoughts were turning in Elena’s mind, Cora had already made out what was going on. She could roughly guess after that lovely clue her ‘friend’ had left her. “But still, why did you say it like that? I thought royals like to speak in riddles,” Cora spoke, breaking the silence. “Well, I don’t see the need to do that with you.” Eleanor looked at her with curled up lips, a smile that didn’t even reach her eyes. She was obviously being suspicious of Cora, but it’s not like she had a choice. If she did know what was going on, Elena had no choice but to finish her. ‘What, do I have to go on an acting spree now?’ Cora thought, after noticing the weird look Elena was giving her. Cora sighed and grabbed her hand which made Eleanor flinch. She felt uncomfortable with the sudden touch, but she didn’t let go. “Hey, how about we go outside? It was pretty fun for me last time, and I want to do it again.” Cora smiled, driving off every last suspicion held by Elena. “Yes sure, why not?”
