After waking up at the break of dawn, Cora found a princess next to her. She recalled her memories of yesterday and began to blush really hard. She then keenly remembered that it was morning and gently shook her. She began to toss and turn and gave up after a few minutes. Eleanor woke up in a fit and said, “Why wake up so quickly?”
“Shall we go out?”
“Huh?” She feebly questioned while rubbing her adorable eyes slowly like a child.
I slightly chuckled looking at her expressions which resembled my siblings. I shook the thought off of myself as I was, once again, on the verge of tears. Eleanor quickly got off the bed and gave me a tight hug. At first, it was okay, but the harder she hugged, the tighter the space became for me to breathe. I started patting her hard on the back. “Can’t breathe…….” Oh my god, I feel like dying. She gently started loosening her grip and I regained my senses. “Alright, let us go out and explore then.”
After dressing up, we were ready to go out. Security was tight, sneaking out of the rooms was one thing, but getting out of the palace was another. We had to wear cleaner’s uniforms to disguise ourselves. One could even say, it was the worst experience they could have felt. After getting out, it felt like freedom was just…….silently bestowed to us.
Well, at least our hard work paid off, I thought while prancing around the marketplace. It was beautiful and very lively, but it felt quite different from the last time I saw it. It’s lost its life, it doesn’t feel the same. I slowed down my pace as I carefully moved my eyes to scan around once again. It was as if the civilians were pretending to be happy, but their body gestures showed it all. They looked like they were desperate and starving, however, they still maintained their appearances. Their eyes had black circles, symptoms which showed a lack of sleep and they constantly kept falling which meant low energy levels.
I looked at Eleanor who looked back and, as if she read my mind, she immediately answered” I know. The people are on the brink of death. That’s why this alliance is taking place in the first place.” Now I understood. The situation wasn’t dire. It was worse beyond expectation.
I started thinking about countermeasures and analysed several of them in my mind. They were several cases in our time and all of them were successfully solved on a large-scale. The solutions in my mind had a high chance of success but were very risky if carried out improperly. I kept walking behind Eleanor when she stopped. I bumped into her head.
“OW! Why did you suddenly stop?”
She started shaking tremendously and had a horrified expression on her face. I looked at her and became confused. What in the world could have scared her so bad? I thought, as I slowly turned my gaze towards where she was pointing.
It was if words couldn’t come out of my mouth. Two men dressed extravagantly were hitting a beggar violently. They were kicking so hard that the man was screaming in pain. It was causing a scene, which wasn’t very pretty. After looking for a moment or two, I couldn’t keep my eyes on the act.
It wasn’t soon that the man started coughing blood. Small sobs came up to Eleanor’s mouth as she covered it with her hands. Pity and pain were mysteriously combined and reflected in her eyes. I felt sorry for both my friend and the man. He was about to die. But no one stood up. They just stood, pointing fingers, and whispering quietly. I smirked. Funny how much this world is like ours. Heroes gotta stand up with the same old cliché. Unbelievable. Must I do this?
“Enough!” I couldn’t believe what I was doing. Although I did realize how foolish my action was, fortunately, I wasn’t about to take upon the blame upon myself. Someone else’s voice had resonated with mine. I quickly turned around with a spin which made me trip. Lucky for me, someone prevented that from happening. I was about to express my gratitude causing me to look at him. I couldn’t move nor could I speak as my breath was stuck in my throat. That’s when I saw him.
A tall muscular man was extending his arm in order to protect me from falling. He had a shimmering blue gaze that swiftly cut right into my soul. . He was fully covered in fine elegant clothing and had the most handsome and beautiful facial features I had ever seen. His face, eyes, nose, mouth and………..lips. Like a girl. Everything about him was absolutely perfect, especially his mouth. He had a thick husky voice which was difficult to forget and would leave a heavy impression if talked with. The man could easily leave an impact and intimidate an average person. I quickly cast a slight look at his appearance and became thoroughly enchanted
I gazed in his eyes for a long time letting the moment seep into my bones. I gulped. I.Had.Fallen.In.Love. The magic spell broke off as soon as the tall man spoke. “Why, is it wrong to hit those who are bugging continuously?” My teeth gritted. I hated high-class people who considered themselves big and mighty. I know. It’s stupid and dumb to think so. It's frikkin' cliche. But what can I do? I couldn't help it at all. Thoughts were swirling inside my head as I sprinted abruptly towards the noble male.
