Chapter four

The Woman Who Walked Away Killian's POV The court was still noisy long after Angela left. Voices echoed throughout the hall, nobles whispered and elders argued. Servants rushed around trying to restore order but none of it mattered. I stood frozen before the altar, staring at the empty doorway where Angela had disappeared. Gone. She was actually gone but the realization refused to settle inside my mind. Angela Milan had left me and not only had she rejected me,she had chosen Miguel Raul. Miguel of all people. My fists clenched so tightly that my nails dug into my palms. The humiliation burned and I could practically feel the judgment around me. Every stare, every whisper and every hidden smirk. The mighty Alpha of Shadow Fang had been abandoned at the altar. The story would spread across every kingdom before sunset. I could already imagine the laughter and mockery. A loud crash echoed through the hall. I hadn't even realized I'd thrown a chair until the shattered wood littered the floor. The crowd immediately fell silent, good,at least they still feared me. "Everyone out." My voice came out cold. The guests wasted no time obeying and within minutes the court was nearly empty. Only a handful of elders remained. One of them cautiously approached. "Alpha—" "Leave." His face paled. "But the alliance negotiations—" "I said leave." The elder immediately retreated, and that's very good because right now I felt like ripping someone's throat out. The moment the room emptied completely, my wolf surged forward, fury rolled through my veins. How dare she? How dare Angela embarrass me like that? She loved me,she had always loved me and for years she followed me. She supported me,defended me and everything she did revolved around me. So what changed? The question refused to leave my mind, none of this made sense, not a single part of it. I replayed the wedding over and over, the calm expression, the confidence, the coldness in her eyes. It didn't feel like a woman having second thoughts. It felt like a woman who hated me. A knock interrupted my thoughts. I growled. "What?" The door slowly opened and Morticia stepped inside. Unlike everyone else, she looked completely calm, composed and beautiful. Her red hair cascaded over her shoulders, her green eyes watched me carefully. The sight of her usually eased my mood but today it didn't. "Everyone is talking about it," she said softly. I laughed bitterly. "No doubt." Morticia approached cautiously. "Angela made a mistake."The words should have comforted me instead they irritated me because for some reason I didn't want to hear Angela insulted. "Did she?" Morticia blinked, clearly surprised by my response. I rubbed a hand across my face, exhaustion was beginning to replace my anger. Everything had happened so fast, one moment I was preparing to marry Angela, the next she was leaving with another man. Miguel Raul. The image made my stomach twist. Why Miguel? Why him? What could he possibly offer her? Power?Protection?Status? I already intended to give her all those things. Didn't I? The thought lingered uncomfortably because if I was being honest, had I ever truly shown Angela how much she mattered? Or had I simply assumed she would always remain by my side? I pushed the thought away immediately. It didn't matter and Angela made her choice. And she would regret it. Morticia moved closer. "Killian." I looked at her and concern filled her expression. At least someone still cared, unlike Angela. Morticia gently touched my arm. "I'm sorry." The simple gesture eased some of the tension in my chest. For years Morticia had been one of the few people who understood me. She never challenged me,never questioned my decisions and never argued. She always knew exactly what to say unlike Angela. My jaw tightened. Why was I still thinking about Angela? She was gone. The matter should be finished yet every time I closed my eyes, I saw her standing at the altar, calmly rejecting me like I meant nothing. Morticia stepped even closer. "You don't deserve what she did." I exhaled heavily. "No." "I've always thought she took you for granted." Something about that statement felt wrong but before I could examine it, Morticia continued. "You built this pack." "You made Shadow Fang strong." "Without you, none of this would exist." Her words soothed my wounded pride, perhaps that was exactly why she said them. I looked around the empty hall,at the decorations, the flowers, the abandoned wedding feast. Everything prepared for a ceremony that never happened and anger surged through me once more. Angela humiliated me before everyone, all for Miguel. The thought was unbearable. "I'll make her regret it." Morticia's eyes gleamed. "I know you will." Hours later, the palace had finally quieted and most of the guests had left. The celebrations had been cancelled while the entire pack remained in shock. I found myself sitting in my private chambers with Morticia,a bottle of expensive wine rested between us and neither of us spoke for several minutes. I stared out the window, the moon hung high above the pack lands. Morticia refilled my glass. "Stop thinking about her." I laughed humorlessly. "Easier said than done." "She's not worth it." I took a long drink. Maybe she wasn't,maybe this was for the best. Morticia shifted closer beside me,her shoulder brushed mine. "Forget her tonight." I glanced at her and dhe offered a small smile. Warm, inviting and comforting. Some of the tension eased from my body as a sigh escaped my lips. Perhaps she was right, perhaps the best thing I could do was move forward, leave Angela in the past and prove I didn't need her. “I can make you forget her.” Morticia said, moving her lips over mine softly as I sighed again. She took my hand and placed it on her breast, groping it tenderly. “Forget about her, we'll talk about revenge by morning, but for now, come to bed.”
