THE REIGN OF CROMWELL

THE CHASE

The head of the king's guard heard the bell that was ranged from the three watchtowers, he rushed to the topmost floor, at the entrance of the king's room, he saw the bodies of the guards that were stationed at the door, the door was wide open, he hurried in and saw the king lying on the bed in a pool of his blood, With a loud voice he screamed as he rushed out of the room

The soldiers were all alert, the gates to the palace were locked and all the rooms were searched. He went straight to the window at the north wing and look through it, but there was no trace of the assassins. But far beyond the wall, he could see two figures making their way into the night, he hurried down to the palace gate, took some soldiers with him and chase the assassins. The assassins took the great road that led to the valley of the east, from the valley of the east is the forest of vipers and far eastward is the eastern kingdom(the eastern kingdom xion the werewolves land and Gilga). They rode faster, the sound from their horses kept the night awake. They arrived at the valley of the east, set their horses aside and began to climb swiftly, the path of the valley was so steep and one could slide into the river below, as they arrived at the bottom, they heard a sound up the valley, one of the king's guards had lost his footing, he slides down, screaming in pain and straight into the river, the clear water became red. The assassins swarm through the river as arrows were shot at them, they arrived at the other side of the river and fire arrows at the guards trying to cross the river, the numbers of guards decreased and the water grew deeper in red. The forest of viper was so dark and one could cut the darkness with a knife, many men had entered and never return, but when death lies at one back, the only way is forward. They rush into the forest and were lost in its darkness. When the guards got to the forest, they stood at its entrance, thinking of the danger that lies ahead, the head of the king's guard gave the order and they matched into the darkness. They searched the darkness, lost some of their men to the sting of viper and after hours of search, they knew they will all die from the sting of the vipers if they don't turn back. So they made their way back, with just three guards left of the eleven that began the chase.

WAKE UP FATHER

That night will mark the beginning of a new phase of life for Adela. At first, when she heard the bell rang, she hide in her room, scared of what might have happened, but later the guards came to her door and knocked, she was reluctant to open the door, the guards informed her about the death of the king. She ran straight to her father's room, on seeing her father lying lifeless on the bed she moaned bitterly. She finds it hard to believe that he has left her all alone in this world, that she is now an orphan, but where will she start from, who will defend her in the council of royals or from Cromwell. That night the palace was filled with moaning, never has a king been murdered in the history of the kingdom, but what has put fear in their heart was the ease with which the king was murdered.

The head of the king's guard sent soldiers to the house of Cromwell and Richmond to inform them of the incident in the palace, a meeting of the royals was fixed. The guards got to the house of Cromwell and informed him about the incident in the palace and the urgent meeting of the royals, he woke his son Phillip and they headed straight to the palace. As they approach the palace the moaning of the people could be heard from some distance away, he thought within himself, that why will the people choose to moan a king who has no respect for the royals, one who chooses to save his daughter, placing her first before the dignity of the royals, as these thoughts run through his heart, the gate to the palace was open the and a group of soldiers welcomed them. He and his son headed straight to the topmost floor to see the king, as they approach the door to the king's room, they could hear Adela moaning deeply for her father. Cromwell looked at her with disgust, in his heart he knew she is scared of what might happen to her, he parted her on the back, consoled her, and after some time, he told the guard to take her to her room.

The guard held her hands, pulled her gently from the king and walked her to her room. Cromwell stood beside the king's body, As he looked at the lifeless body of the king, his heart began to feel the gravity of his actions, and for the first time a slight feeling of guilt struck his heart, within him he knew he had gone too far with his actions, but the king deserves what he got, if only he had listened to him, maybe all this would not have happened, but he knew the king will never allow his son Phillip to marry the princess.

THE REIGN OF CROMWELL

Cover the body and let no one enter the room he said as he walks out of the room. He went straight to the central court, the court was filled with royals, they sat in groups, each man with his group of friends debating who murdered the king and who will sit on the royal throne, they knew that it is either Cromwell or Richmond. But the night before the assassination, Cromwell had already bought their support. As they sat waiting for the arrival of Richmond, the soldiers who went to Richmond house arrived, they reported to the council of royal that Richmond could not be found. The council of royals were shocked and this raised a high suspicion that Richmond might be responsible for the death of the king. The meeting of the royals was declared open. First, the royals demanded that the death of the king should be investigated and that Richmond should be found and questions. And as for the princess, they agreed that she cannot be their king, some suggested that for the sake of the royal bloodline she should be treated with honour and made to live like a princess in the palace. Cromwell sat on his seat, he thought about the blood the seat has cost him, but it is well deserved, now he can reign over the royals and as for Richmond, as long as he remains dead or missing the suspicion of the council will be on him. Cromwell won the votes that were cast to validate him as the new head of the royals, one who is to see to the affairs of the kingdom. He stood up from his seat, walked to the seat of royal, thanked the royals, promised to live by the code and sat on the royal throne while they applauded.
