Awakened

1711 Words
Male wolves awaken around their 15th Birthday, they have always been seen as the protectors, as the warriors so it is understandable that they would awaken first. Female wolves awaken anywhere from 17 to age 21. They stay Dormant until the Female has discovered her mate, or she turns 21. Once a Female wolf has discovered her mate, the draw is almost irresistible for both the Male and Female.   His hand stopped moving, I opened my eyes to look up him, the look on his face was one I was not expecting. "Galen?" I asked confused by the concerned look on his face. "You can't say that" he said taking a step back from me. I sat up slowly, "And why is that?" I asked confused by his response. It was a feeling I had inside me, I didn't know what it was, or why it was happening. I didn't even know what my wolf was, what that even meant. It was just the only word that felt right to describe what I was feeling. He raised his eyes to meet mine "What if he doesn't choose me tomorrow? What will that mean for you? For me? This was a mistake, I should have never kissed you back. I need to go." I reached out to him but he pulled away, "I'm sorry" He stood and walked toward the door.  "You never answered me, you never told me why you call me Your Little Luna." I spoke the words quickly, I didn't want him to leave, I didn't understand why, but the idea of him not being next to me made me feel empty. He stopped before he reached the door, he didn't turn around. "It doesn't matter, feelings and names mean nothing to the Alpha. He will pick his replacement no matter how you or anyone else feels. He will choose the strongest Wolf to take his place, and that is all that matters." And with that he walked out of my room. I was alone. This was a feeling I remembered all too well. I sat there on my bed in the quite, this, this felt normal. This was familiar. This was my normal. I stood up and walked across my room to the window, this was the place I remembered the most, this window, staring out into the woods. Alone. Lonely. I felt the tears begin the well in my eyes, this was the empty feeling that I was dreading. I sat on the bench in front of my window and pulled my legs to my chest.  I let my mind wonder as I stared out the window, I pushed myself on Galen, was that really because I felt something inside of me? Or was it because I didn't want to feel alone anymore? Did I even really know him? Was that 'memory' just a fantasy? If this was what my life had been before, did I really want to remember? Did I really want to remember this sad, lonely girl?  A knock at the door pulled me away from my thoughts, I turned in time to see a older woman with dark brown hair and soft grey-blue eyes walk through the doorway. Her eyes were red and slightly puffed, it looked like she had been crying. I saw the corners of her mouth raise in a soft smile. She seems familiar, but I didn't know, and then I got a slight whiff of vanilla. I knew that scent, that scent made me feel safe, that scent was happiness, was laughter, was home, that scent was my mother.  I stood up and ran to her as fast as my legs would carry me, her arms were ready to catch me when I fell into her. My dam broke and I sobbed in her arms, I didn't even understand all of the reasons I was crying but I knew that this was my safe place, in her arms I was safe. I breathed in her scent as I held her, I didn't know how long I had been gone but I had missed her, I didn't even know who I was, but I knew that I had missed her. She ran her hand over my hair and whispered "Alora Moon I am so glad your'e home, I missed you my little moon ray. Where did you go?" I got flash backs as she spoke, of her rocking me to sleep, of her and I dancing together in the moonlight when I was little. She always called me her little moon ray, because I always brought light into the darkness. I looked up into her eyes, "I don't know where I've been momma, I don't remember anything, but, but I remember you!" I could feel the tears fall down my face as I spoke. She pulled me back into a tight hug, "Momma is here, And I will do whatever it takes to help you!" her words were so calming. She brought me down stairs to the kitchen, she said I looked hungry. She sat me on a bar stool at the end of the kitchen island, she opened the refrigerator and began pulling out food. She started to ask me what I wanted when the back door swung open and both of use looked toward the loud crash that followed. I stood up to go and see what the noise was, but she was in front of me in and instant. I closed my eyes as I started feeling that pressure in my head again, I opened my eyes as she started moving up backwards away from the doorway.  More voices now, more growling and then a body appeared in the doorway of the kitchen. "Well lookie lookie what I found" A deep gravely voice said, I heard him breathing in deep. He moaned softly "I found Mrs. Alpha and a baby Luna." My mother was still slowly moving us back, "You have no right to be here" my mother growled. The man laughed loudly and took a step forward into the kitchen, he clucked his tongue softly "This is my pack too, remember" He stepped into the light and I caught a glimpse of his face, It was badly scarred, but he looked eerily familiar. "I've brought a gift for the Alpha" He said with a wicked smile, just then the screaming began again. I winced in pain as the pressure in my head got worse, I looked up when I heard him laugh "Looks like the baby Luna has been awakened." He was looking at my mother now "I wonder how the Alpha is gonna handle that" He smiled but there was sadness in his eyes. He stood there and looked at us both for another minute, then turned and walked away.  My mother waited, she watched the door like she was afraid he was going to come back, then she turned and looked at me. She grabbed both my arms in her hands and shook me softly "Have you?" she asked "Have you been awakened?" the worry that covered her face scared me. "I don't know what that means" I said honestly, But just then the pressure became too much and I fell to my knees, she followed me down as I grabbed my head and whimpered in pain.  She placed her shaky hand on on my shoulder "I'm so sorry" Her voice cracked softly, I tried to look up at her, I didn't understand why she was upset. The pain was getting worse, I heard the sound of heavy footsteps and my mother whispered "You?" I tried to open my eyes as I felt my body being lifted, but the pressure became overwhelming and I blacked out. I woke up in my bed, the pressure was gone, but the nagging headache remained. "Mom" I called out softly sitting up, I almost screamed when a male voice spoke from the darkness "Shes down stairs." I looked toward the voice and tried to see who spoke, "oh, okay. Thank you" I said my eyes scanning the darkness. I threw off my blankets and lifted one leg over the side of the bed, before I could lift the other the voice spoke again "You are not to leave the room, Alphas orders."  I pulled my other leg over the edge of the bed and stood up, "I need to use the restroom" He was in front of me in a moment and placed a hand on my shoulder pushing me back down to the bed. "You are not to leave under any circumstances" his voice was emotionless as was his facial expression. I didn't recognize him, but he was very large and I felt very intimidated. "O-Okay" I stuttered out softly. He walked back over to where he had apparently been sitting, I couldn't really tell, it was pitch black except for the little bit of moonlight that slipped in thought the gap in the curtains. I shifted on the bed, I could feel his eyes on me, but I still couldn't see where he had gone. We sat that way for what felt like forever, in pure silence "May I ask your name?" I asked finally trying to break the silence. "Beau" his voice said out of the darkness, I tried to focus on the spot where his voice had come from but I still couldn't see anything.  "Beau, that's a nice name. Do we know each other Beau?" I had given up trying to see him in his pitch black hiding spot, but sitting in silence while I could feel his eyes on me was a little too uncomfortable. "Not really" He said, He wasn't really much for conversation was he? I opened my mouth to ask another question when he cut me off "I'm not hear for conversation, I'm here to make sure you obey the Alphas order."  I pulled my legs back up onto the bed, "Oh, right." I pulled the blankets back over myself and laid down "I guess I'll just try to go back to sleep then" I said into the darkness, he didn't respond, I wasn't surprised. I stared at the gap in the curtains, until my eyes finally fluttered closed.
