In the room,a little boy of about seven years old was peeling apples. They both turned to her ,the boy glanced at the guards on the floor, and the old man glared at her." You vagabond, you've failed before the audition". Rae rolled her eyes and closed the door." I wanted to know if you were alive, considering the fact that you're a troublemaker. Aren't I the best oldie?". Xavier watched the two as they argued back and forth, they completely ignored his existence, especially the woman. This was strange because other women would have been sucking up to him."Weren't you taught to knock?" Rae paused and turned to the boy,she hated kids, especially rude ones.
" Weren't you taught to not interrupt elders when they're talking?" Xavier's mouth fell open,no one had ever spoken to him like that before.Martim laughed when he saw his expression. "Anyways, bye Oldie. I can't wait to go home and eat". She turned and stretched as she made her way to the door. Looking at her in sky blue and white uniform,he felt something was off. Her stance didn't suit the uniform but she carried it with grace. She looked pretty despite her face being devoid of makeup." We're not done here yet,you touched my guards". He heard her snicker but she didn't stop." Those incompetent losers are your guards? What a joke." She was out of the room in no time.
" She's interesting right? She's the one I chose". Xavier sneered," You must be kidding, she isn't fit for the role". This old man literally just called her a vagabond."Let's play a little game then".Unaware that her fate was being decided by a little game,Rae inhaled the smell of spring. She couldn't wait to get home. She stopped at a nearby store to get groceries. A journey that would usually take twenty minutes took an hour just because she was enjoying the ride. She parked her bike in the garage and forced herself to climb the stairs. By the time she got to get apartment, she was panting like she had run a marathon, she fell on the floor and some of the things she bought rolled out. A man picked up an apple that had gone to stop at his feet." I took the liberty of cleaning". Rae groaned,"why are you here?".
He went to the kitchen to rinse the apple and get a knife."There's a new job, tonight". Rae stood up and took the bags to the kitchen. She frowned at the man dressed in black as he made himself comfortable in her home."There's something called a phone?" She began to arrange the things she got in the fridge. She had to admit,he did a good job when it came to cleaning. Under normsl circumstances, she should have been worried that her superior cleaned her house for her but the circumstances were from normal. She had told him countless times to not come to her house.
" You can go,I'll go get ready and before midnight, your work will be done". He groaned and began humming." You should appreciate nice gestures now and then, they won't hurt". Ignoring him,she went to her room, locking him out. Thirty minutes later, she walked out looking like a different person. This time, she was wearing a purple and black leather jumpsuit, black gloves and black boots, she had makeup and and she looked like the assassin she was."Now there's the Nyx I know". She rolled her eyes, she was not going to correct him,not like he would listen anyway,he was as stubborn as she was. "Fill me in on the details". She dragged him up and out of the room. By the time they got into the car,he had given her the necessary details. They drove at high speed for a while before stopping in front of a building,"Your gun has been set up,goodluck little one". Nyx smirked as she got out of the car. She didn't need luck, she was good at what she did. She listened to the long explanation about the operation from the little device in her ear. She seriously didn't know what their problem was,she had never missed before and she wasn't planning to now.
As she made her way to her position, she remembered how she found him,the one who saved her. She had been just a little street urchin, bound to live a meaningless life and die a miserable death. She had gotten into a fight and was almost beaten to death, when this man stepped in. He didn't fight for her, instead he let her fight back. Thinking back to it now, only him would give a ten year old kid a knife. That was the first time she had killed someone, she had stabbed one of them right in the neck. She watched him fall, watched him squirm as he struggled to make the blood stop and she didn't feel remorse, she never even felt anything then. His companions fled when they saw this but she didn't bother chasing them.
He had clapped afterwards and laughed for a long time, then he looked at her and said,"aren't you a fierce one little tigress?" She had followed him home, she couldn't call it a home as it was devoid of any warmth,it was a mansion and the only sign of life was the tiger he kept. She shook her head now that she remembered his lack of taste. He was a rather peculiar man because contrary to her expectations,he wanted to send her to school but she refused until he had to threaten to return her to the streets.
They had struck a deal then, she would go to school and he would train her. He had given her the name Onyx because she had no name. She loathed the name then because she thought it sounded too boring but now,she was getting a hang of it. She stretched for a bit and cracked her knuckles, she inspected the gun a few times and checked it out. Once she was sure everything was intact, she sat down waiting for her target. She looked around and found that the place used to be a former art studio. There was graffiti everywhere. This was an upgrade, compared to the boring places they used to pick before."It's go time". She stood up and got into position, waiting for her target, she steadied her breathing and spat the gum in her mouth out. She thought of the cake she was going to have once she was done here, she could almost taste it."Here they come".
