Rae could not help but bite her nails as she check her watch again. Kyle had not called back and to make things worse,Martin was sleeping. She could not seem to get anything out of that old man. She doubted he'd know anyway, trust the rich to hide things. News had not even gotten out that Nathan freaking Kings had been shot. She could understand the need to prioritize privacy but we're they not interested in finding the sniper?
She knew they'd be looking for her but she was not the wind for no reason."He hasn't called yet,has he?" Rae jumped and looked to her side to find her busybody colleague,Steph smiling in a very annoying way. She kept tapping her red nails against her chin. Rae narrowed her eyes and started thinking of ways to silence Steph,no one except her knew about Kyle, what guild does she work for?
She was still deciding I poisoning her or strangling her will be more effective when Steph spoke again, completely throwing Rae off." You guys had a little lovers' tiff?" Rae almost hit her head,of course this was Steph, harmless Steph.
"No Steph,I don't have a boyfriend". She heard a snicker and didn't need to be told it was Sugar."Steph darling,Rae has no love life what so ever, she's just Rae". Rae rolled her eyes."Yes Steph,Esther is right". She knew Esther would be fuming, for some reason,Esther hated the name Esther and she could understand why but she personally thought Sugar was dumb.
She wouldn't say she had a good relationship with her colleagues. There were people like Steph who wouldn't mind their business, the middle aged woman sometimes creeped her out. She had a knack for fishing for information.
She didn't detest the woman but she didn't like her either. She and Steph were just there. Of course, there were people like "Sugar",who hated her for no reason. Although she felt like Martin was one of the major reasons. He was the richest man in the country after all and they wanted to curry favour but that old man was hard to get along with and he only requested for her just to annoy her.
She wondered why Martin ended up in their average elderly home though. With his wealth,he could have found the best home I'm the country but he came downtown instead. Whatever was wrong with rich people anyways. Then she remembered she could be considered rich too. Considering her attitude, something was definitely wrong with rich people.
Poor people wanted money,as a kid she had wanted money and now she had it but she would not use it. She had told the two men in her life that she wanted to work her to cover up her tracks but they all knew she was trying to atone for making money off killing people.
What puzzled her was the fact that she enjoyed being good at what she did,she enjoyed being at the top but she had a problem with spending the money she had earned through hard work, she had trained day and night to be the best and now she had it but she was not happy still.
Her mind wandered to that brat she met recently. She thought of how she was going to have to make him fatherless real soon. Well,if Nathan was a good man to begin with,he would not be a target and she would not have to kill him. The kid was better off without him as a father, right?
She thought of that old man,she would have to make him lose a grandson soon too. Well,he would not find out since he'd be dying soon anyways, right? Oh,she felt a migraine coming on. All this thinking was not good for her health. She looked around,at some point,Steph and Esther had left her to do their things when the saw her spacing out.
Wait, was Nathan the one that man wanted her to marry? He had to be kidding,Nathan was not her type. But she didn't know what he was like asides the fact that he was a single father, handsome and a target. This was getting too much for her precious brain. Hold up,did she just walk him handsome? She grabbed a fistful of her hair. This was the first time she had admitted to anyone being handsome.
Feeling out of control, she decided to make herself a cup of coffee. She felt normal again when the metallic taste of the bad coffee hit her tongue. She decided to remind that old boss of hers to change the coffeemaker.
Just as she was thinking of good coffee, she received the text she had been waiting for."Here I come,Nathan". She ran out of work the moment her shift was over. She raced against the wind to get to her apartment, she ran to her door and minutes later, she walked out as a pregnant woman.
Her skills were not just killing, she could disguise as anyone at anytime. This was her favorite skill, throw in some clothes, make up and wigs, a new her would be born.
She had to hail a taxi because of the baby growing inside her. She wished it could move faster. Just when she thought things couldn't get worse, They turned the corner and got stuck in a traffic jam. She almost screamed in frustration. They had to wait for twenty seven minutes. The longest twenty seven minutes of her life.
She drag her belly into the hospital and elevator. After she got off,she slowly walked into the hospital. The smell of antiseptics had to be the worst smell in the world. She wondered how anyone could survive the yucky smell but that was by the way. For some reason, everyone was looking at her and smiling,it took her a while to figure out that they were being nice because she was pregnant. she itched to get rid of the stupid costume.
She turned to a less crowded hall way and walked into the janitor's closet. She quickly changed into the clothes she had stolen earlier. The poor woman had been bathing when she had stolen her clothes and ID and stuffed it in her stomach. Putting a nose mask on,she walked out and started to search for any door that screamed "A rich as f**k man is in here".
As the rich would always be the rich, she found his ward through the guards stationed outside it. She waited for a while, before approaching the door but was stopped, she showed them the ID."I won't wake him up. I just need to check his drip". The guards exchanged looks before agreeing to let her in.
She almost slid to the floor when she got in the room, finally. She rushed to the bed and carefully grabbed a pillow before proceeding to strangle him. She knew something was wrong when there was no struggle. She had been careless and had fallen into a bloody trap."Lights out", someone whispered, what followed was her falling into the arms of a man. Blue eyes came into her vision and she smiled before darkness enveloped her.
She had been careless.
