    I stare at the ceiling of my chambers. Well, more like my prison but whatever. Nikolai’s words are still spinning in my head, like they have been for the last twenty minutes since he told me.     It just can’t be true.     “No, it can’t,” I mumble aloud. There’s a voice in my head nagging at me though, screaming that it is the case. That somehow, some way, I am this powerful being, the last of my kind. As much as I hate to admit it, even Nikolai’s explanation makes sense. Why my parents were killed, why I suck at magic so much, even why Gale gave me the amulet in the first place.     Did she know?     I frown. How could she have?
