Chapter 7 Great Temple Of Osiris

487 Words
I followed the priest towards the temple right as we entered the temple, I was immedietly drawn to its beauty,it was fully white with the most lavish of decorations, there were gems on many pillars, skillfully made sculptures on the wall and more than a thousand images of Osiris not to mention the place was well organised and very clean..these people obviously adored their god, Osiris. The priest lead me towards one of the rooms in the top floor of the temple, it had lots of beds and beside each bed a medium sized chest, the beds didn't seem too comfy but who am I to judge? This is ancient Egypt anyway. The priest moved his hand in a writing motion so I gave him the notebook and he wrote something. "All the girls you see in here are also gonna become dancers, we will teach you all how to dance well and sing...but I assume since you said you're deaf singing would be hard for you..?" I read what he wrote so far and nodded, he then went back to writing. "Ah, no worries, just dancing is enough..also, if you become a top dancer you might move on to the highest paying rank, the people in that rank are usually considered the ones loved most by Osiris." After reading what he wrote I wrote back "how many ranks are there?" I passed the notebook back to him and he read it then wrote again. "3, beginners who usually just do small roles, such as you and all these other girls in the room, respected dancers who get slightly better treatment and do a bit more important roles, and "Divine priestesses" those are the highest ranking ones, each gets a room for their own, they take part in the most important rituals and dances and they receive the highest pay" ..The fact they have a system for this was wild to me, it kind of reminded me about the archaeology company I work for.. The priest turned to the girls and spoke..I obviously didn't understand, he then waved goodbye and left the room, closing the door behind him, I turned around and noticed all the other girls looking at me, whispers could be heard everywhere around the room..just then had I realised what it feels to be the odd one out..how I wish I could speak in the same language as them. In fiction stories there'd usually be atleast one girl who'd come up to the heroine and befriend her..but who am I kidding, I'm no heroine and none of these girls seem nice..is it because of my out of place clothing..or is it because they saw the priest writing on a notebook just to communicate with me? No, maybe what the priest had said before leaving was that I'm "deaf" and so they resent me now..but it makes no sense, how could people be so mean?
