Chapter 5 Itjitawy

As I was sitting on the camel with the man I suddenly remembered, I have a notebook and a pen, I could write what I want to say in the demotic writing, however the citizens of ancient egypt wrote in the demotic writing, so I wrote with it. I quickly pulled out my notebook and began writing,

"I don't understand when you speak but I could write and read, where are we going?"

I wrote exactly that before tapping the man slightly on his shoulder and giving him the pen and the paper after I ripped it out. He read it carefully and he stared with confusion, obviously because he must not know about paper and pens. Despite that he was kind enough to ignore that and he wrote back, I'm quite surprised he already got the hang of writing with a pen. "Itjitawy the capital of Egypt. Are you from here?" The man wrote back, I now knew that the time I'm at is probably the middle kingdom in egypt, I took the paper and wrote again "I'm from a very far and unknown place, may I ask the name of the pharoh currently ruling Egypt?" The man read the paper, nodded and then wrote on it "Amenemhat" then he gave the paper back to me, I read it and nodded. We both stayed silent and the man seemed to turn his focus to where the camel was moving..

..Eventually we reached Itjitawy, this was the capital of Egypt during the middle kingdom, I stared in awe, not only was the spoken language beautiful but the capital was aswell, I almost couldn't believe my eyes. The people around all seemed happy, laughs of children filled the air and despite me not understanding the language I could easily tell that everyone here was just happy to be alive...how I wish life was like this all the time in the future. The man's camel came to a halt somewhere less crowded, the man turned to me, I could tell he wanted to say something so I gave him the notebook and pen. "This is as far as I could take you, I'd recommend getting a job to make a living here" I took the notebook and read what he wrote then nodded, he turned around and began leaving with his camel, I was quite upset about that but atleast he'd tolerated me up until now.
