Julia sat in a coffee shop with a cup of latte in her hand and a sack letter on the table.
An hour ago,she had received the sack letter from her boss whom she had worked for ,for about a year now as a secretary.
"you're fired Julia, need you to clear out your desk as soon as possible" A mean looking man yelled at her from his desk where he was seated.
"But sir, you can't just fire me. At least you need to tell me why I'm being fired." she demanded even though she already knew what the answer was.
Her boss had been cheating on his wife with the clerk and his wife had walked in on them in the office which he blames Julia for.
"Get out!!!!!!!"This time his voice reached the end of the halls.
Julia's face began turning red as she brimmed with anger at the injustice she had just faced, she clenched her teeth as she was biting hard and preventing herself from doing anything to her now ex boss.
Julia picked up the letter and walked out of his office, slamming the door really hard. She paused for a second and kept panting as she couldn't believe what had just happened. With the letter still in her hand, she forced herself to calmly walk out of the place.
She walked angrily into the coffee shop nearby and sat down as she let out a heavy sigh.
"I really need to find another job as soon as possible" she thought to herself and sighed again.
Little beads of sweat trickled down her face as she was beginning to feel anxious about the whole thing. She gently lifted her left hand and wiped the sweat from her face just as it was getting to her jawline.
Just then her phone rang, it was her Aunt Miranda.
“Julia, got your message. You really have no reason to be there anymore, how about you come down to work with me here" Aunt Miranda suggested to Julia for the umpteenth time already.
"Aunt you mean as a live-in maid." Julia said, sounding unsure.
She had always wanted an office job although she had done all sorts of menial jobs to help herself through school including being a nanny, but being a live-in maid as a full time worker didn't seem like a great idea to her.
"It isn't that bad and besides the pay is really good, plus you will have a place to stay while you search for a better job of your choice" Aunt Miranda said
.
She could hear Aunt Miranda breathing harshly as she spoke over the phone
Aunt Miranda was the only family Julia had left after losing her mum to cancer some years back.
"Aunt I'll think about it though. I still have some things to sort out here." She said, still sounding unsure about it.
"What could you possibly have to sort out?" she asked Julia who seemed bent on not listening to her.
"Aunt I know you have never liked Durian but he is my fiance and I can't just decide to leave without talking things through with him." She said defensively.
She finally brought out her handkerchief to dab on the sweat she had on her face. She looked down at the handkerchief and noticed she had pressed too hard as she could see traces of her makeup on it.
“I wonder what you love about him" Aunt Miranda who was never fond of Durian as she felt he didn't deserve her niece said.
"Aunt, you know I love you but Durian is also my family now." Julia said in a low voice, almost as if she didn't want her aunt to hear that.
Taking another sip of her drink, she looked out the window at a bird that was sitting on a tree just right outside the coffeee shop.
I "Well you have nothing to lose dear, l will inform my boss about you and prepare for your moving down here" This time around Aunt Miranda was bent on getting Julia out of the countryside by all means necessary.
"Okay Aunt. I love you okay"
Julia dropped her phone on the table in front of her and picked up the sack letter.
"Filthy piece of trash" Her brows went up showing she was really agitated and displeased as she stared at the sack letter on the table.
She picked it up and without second thoughts tore it into shreds. She gulped down the rest of her latte drink and stood up to leave.
“Неу Polly,Is Durian here?" A chubby looking man holding a file under his armpit was moving towards Julia.
"Hello Julia, Durian is back at Section 5." He said as he hurriedly walked past.
"Thank you Polly" She said and made her way to section 5.
She was smiling broadly as she looked forward to Durian comforting her and telling her all will be well. Hastening up her pace, she moved towards section 5 where Polly had said she would find Durian.
With tears gradually forming in her eyes and her hands trembling, she looked on in utter disbelief as her bag dropped to the ground.
"Durian?" It was more of a question of confirmation as she couldn't believe what her eyes were seeing. Without waiting for an answer she bent low, picked up her bag and left running.
