“Go inside,” Kealan ordered me.
But I couldn’t move. I was stunned speechless. How had they found me out? Who even told them I was here? And why were they warring against Kealan? I tried to move forward, but Kealan dragged me back.
“Take her inside, get her to safety. These crazy werewolves are biting more than they can chew,” he ordered one of his men.
I was urgently led inside, back to my room. From the balcony, I could see Hugan and Valia rushing outside to witness the chaos. The guard left me in my room and went out immediately. Unable to stay away, I ran to the balcony to see how everything would play out. The castle was vast, and I had a clear view of the ongoing fight.
“What do you want, you wild dogs?” Kealan was poised for a fight.
“I need Desina, bring her out,” the Alpha demanded, glares shooting from his eyes.
“Bring her out here now. You have no right holding her. She does not belong to you,” the Beta stood supportively beside the Alpha.
As Kealan's fiery breath echoed through the night, the Alpha and Beta werewolves dodged and managed to escape being singed, but their followers weren't as fortunate. Chaos erupted as the fire caught some of their bodies, adding to the mayhem. The war zone became a battleground of wolves shifting into their fierce forms, fighting valiantly against the dragons.
Despite the werewolves' bravery, they proved to be no match for the dragons. The fight left many properties in the war-torn area ablaze. Flames danced, casting an eerie glow on the chaos that ensued.
In the midst of this turmoil, my heart longed for my mates. However, the rejection and humiliation they had put me through echoed in my mind, keeping me from embracing the desire to be with them.
As the Alpha and Beta werewolves assessed the dire situation, they must have realized the odds were not in their favor. They reluctantly ordered their remaining forces to retreat, leaving the castle grounds with a lingering threat of a possible return. The flames continued to burn, mirroring the turmoil within my conflicted heart.
The nervous pacing in my room continued as I grappled with the dilemma of whether to reveal the truth to Kealan. My pregnancy, my mates – the complicated web of secrets that entangled me was a heavy burden on my shoulders.
Why had they come back? The Alpha and Beta had treated me with cruelty and disdain. The lovemaking night was an exception in their otherwise contemptuous treatment. Even then, they had shifted the blame onto me, making my life a living hell.
As I heard approaching footsteps, anxiety surged. Should I confess to Kealan about my past and the unborn child? The truth felt like a boulder lodged in my chest, and I considered the possibility of letting it all out. The genuine kiss we had shared only moments ago lingered in my mind, making me question the authenticity of my feelings and his.
Maybe it was time to untangle the knots of deception and face the consequences. The burden of secrets was heavy, and the truth threatened to spill out like an uncontrollable flood.
"Desina, are you okay?" he walked into the room, concern and worry written all over his face. He didn’t wait to hear my response before engulfing me in a big, tight and warm embrace.
“I’m fine, Kealan. You’re the one I should be asking, you went to fight.” He smelled of smoke, sweat and even though my Omega wolf was weak, she could still sniff out anger that lay beneath.
He released me to look at my face. “I’m fine. You matter more.”
Deeply touched by his care and concern, I went on my tiptoes, gently pulled his head down to lock lips with him. This time was even better than the first. It was passionate and his tongue in my mouth sent waves of shock all over.
“Thank you for running into me that night.” He removed tendrils out of my face.
“I should be the grateful one here, you took me into your home without knowing who I was.”
He hugged me again and I reveled in it. My mind went back to my mates and I pulled away from him, suddenly feeling guilty but why should I be? It was their treatment of me…or lack of it that landed me in Kealan’s arms.
"Won't you ask?" I faced him, and he, after a moment of studying my expression, sighed. "They're werewolves, and you're a dragon. Maybe they captured you as a slave, and unable to endure it any longer, you fled their pack."
Sighing in response, I gently pulled him towards the bed. Despite his protest, he insisted I take the space between his legs. Nestling comfortably, our hands linked, I began to share my tale.
"You're right, I did run away from them, but they didn't capture me," I explained with a frown, memories of guards forcibly removing me from my mother's house lingering. "Well, in a way they did. The truth is, I was always the strange girl no one wanted to associate with. I had scales, blue hair, and eyes no one understood, not even myself."
Taking a moment, I licked my lips before continuing. "We had a Bloom ceremony."
"What's a Bloom ceremony?" he asked, genuine curiosity reflected in his eyes.
"It's that day of the year when young and single werewolves organize a party to have fun, but more significantly, to find their mates," I replied, unraveling the details of a tradition unfamiliar to him.
“I think I understand now, but we don’t do ours like that. Continue your story, I’ll tell you mine next time”
I nodded, and went on. “I was full of hope and expectations, and I did find my mates but my joy was cut off when they rejected me.”
“Whoever rejects you Desina deserves to be hanged.”
I flushed at his compliment. “But they did. The Alpha and his best friend, the Beta did.”
“Those werewolves were your mates?” I heard the surprise and anger resonating in his voice.
“Yes.”
“Well, I’m glad they did, that brought you to me.” He nibbled my ears and I giggled, feeling tingles all over.
There was one more truth to tell, I sighed. “But I’m pregnant for them.”
He stopped and turned me so I was facing him. His eyes flickered in anger. “What did you say?”
I swallowed, not sure if it had been stupid to tell him, I did not want him to hate me. “I’m pregnant for them.”
“Dragons and werewolves never mix. Never!” He boomed angrily.
I jolted in fear, wiping tears. “Bu-b-but I am…”
“You will get rid of that pregnancy, if you want to remain in my thunder-castle.”
Then he stormed out of room, banging the door shut. I fell on the bed sobbing.
What have I gotten myself into? Was I truly a dragon? I was different from them just as I was different from the werewolves. Where did I fit in? And most importantly, where would I go with my baby?
