Chapter 1 — The Night Everything Changed

773 Words
Alessandra Silverhart ran through the woods with tears stinging her eyes, her breath sharp and uneven. She didn’t know how long she had been running. Time had blurred into fear, grief, and the pounding of her heartbeat. She was the fastest runner in the entire Kingdom of Werewolves and Vampires—everyone knew that—but tonight, even her speed felt small compared to the terror behind her. Branches snapped under her feet. Cold air sliced through her lungs. Still, she ran. Thalira Moonward had given her one command: Run to the Veilwood Crossing. Don’t stop. Don’t look back. Thalira—ancient, celestial, and one of the most powerful witches alive—was her mother’s closest friend. And now, the only person Alessandra had left. The Kingdom Born From an Impossible Love Her parents, Liora Stormclaw and Theron Silverhart, had changed the world. Liora, fierce and gifted, was the most powerful werewolf queen of her generation. Theron, calm and impossibly strong, was an ancient vampire whose strength was unmatched for centuries. Their love was forbidden. Their union was impossible. But they chose each other anyway. And because of them, two races that had once been enemies finally stood together. Werewolves and vampires lived in harmony, united under one kingdom—strong, peaceful, and full of hope. Their union created what the world would come to call Eclipsaris Kingdom—a realm born from the impossible love between a powerful werewolf queen and the strongest ancient vampire of his era. From the moment Liora Stormclaw and Theron Silverhart stood together, peace spread across the land, and Eclipsaris rose into a kingdom that would stand for a thousand years. Liora herself had been a miracle. The king and queen waited centuries for a child with her gifts, a daughter born once in an age, destined to change the fate of both races. But Alessandra’s birth was even more extraordinary. No one believed a child of both werewolf and ancient vampire blood could survive. Liora almost died bringing her into the world, and only the strongest magic kept them both alive. From the moment she opened her eyes, Alessandra became the living symbol of unity—carrying moon and night in her veins, the final proof that harmony between their races was real. Alessandra grew up believing nothing could ever break that unity. Until the night everything shattered. The Attack It was her fourteenth birthday. The celebration hall glowed with lanterns and music. Alessandra remembered laughing, spinning in her new dress, feeling like the world was perfect. Then she saw her mother speaking to a man she didn’t recognize. His presence felt wrong—cold, sharp—but her mother smiled, so Alessandra tried to ignore the uneasy feeling creeping up her spine. Moments later, the nightmare began. Rogues and Shadow Vampires—twisted, corrupted versions of their kind—burst into the hall. Screams filled the air. Claws and fangs flashed. Blood splattered across marble floors. Alessandra turned toward the throne… and froze. Her mother lay across it, unmoving. Her father beside her, blood soaking through his chest. “M-Mama?” Alessandra whispered, unable to breathe. Before she could reach them, a hand grabbed her wrist. “Alessandra, run!” Thalira’s voice trembled with urgency. “Run as fast as you can. Go to the Veilwood Crossing. I will find you there!” And then Alessandra was pushed into the darkness, into the woods, into the unknown. The Boundary Between Worlds Her legs finally gave out when she reached a clearing—the place Thalira had described. The Veilwood Crossing. A hidden boundary between the supernatural realm and the human world, protected by ancient magic. Alessandra collapsed to her knees, gasping. “Thalira… please… be here…” she whispered. A soft rustle came from behind her. Her heart jumped. “W-who’s there?” A familiar voice answered, gentle but strained. “It’s me, child.” Thalira stepped out from the shadows, her silver hair glowing faintly under the moonlight. Relief washed over Alessandra so strongly she almost sobbed. “You made it,” Thalira said, kneeling beside her. “I’m proud of you.” Alessandra grabbed her hand. “My parents… Thalira, they—” “I know.” Thalira’s voice cracked for the first time. “But you must stay strong. Everything has changed tonight.” Alessandra swallowed hard. “What happens now?” Thalira looked toward the dark forest behind them, her eyes glowing with ancient power. “Now,” she said softly, “we survive. And one day… you will return to reclaim the kingdom your parents built with their love.”
