Chapter Three

Charlotte has mapped out her plan this time around,she planned to join her mother in another city. She had a flashback of when she met Christian. She had gone for an interview as a secretary at Westwood and Sons when Christian approached her and asked her out.
Charlotte had done well at the interview, she was shortlisted as part of the three candidates to come for the final interviews but Christian gave an order to have her name removed leaving them with two candidates.
Christian had gone all out to Impress her, they had a good conversation at the interview and exchanged contacts, they went on different private dates, it was during this time that it dawned on her that the relationship was only between them. Apart from both of them, it was only his father, his secretary and driver that was aware of their relationship. All dates were in private, they never had pictures together and Christian always tells her he doesn't want his relationship to be in public.
She handed the key of the house and the file containing the cheque to the security before leaving.
The security opened the file and saw a cheque of ten million dollars with a hand written note and a key.
She quickly removed the cheque and the note, leaving the file and the key for his boss.
The journey to her destination was quiet, the driver tried to initiate a conversation but she wasn't having any of that.
She was lost in her thoughts, thinking of how to face her mother; she had ignored all her warnings about the Westwood family but she was blinded by love.
She picked up her phone and called her mum when she was twenty minutes away from her house. "Hi mum, are you at home? I want to visit you"
Her mum was quiet for a while and replied "You remember me all these years? Anyways, you're welcome anytime "
It was Elena's day off, she works as a cleaner at a*****e three kilometers from her house after coming out from jail. That was the only job she could get.
She heard a knock on her door thinking it was Charlotte, she rushed to the door and opened her arms to pull in her a hug, to her surprise it was her landlord.
"By tomorrow, I will throw you out of my house. If you can't afford to pay your rent then you don't deserve to have a home" The landlord shouted at her. The landlord has a rugged look enough to scare people away.
Charlotte arrived while this commotion was ongoing "Mom, what's going on?" She inquired
The landlord beats Elena to do the talking "Wow, you have a beautiful daughter. Hmmmm. Let me marry your daughter and you can continue living here for free" He said smiling at Charlotte.
Charlotte was angry hearing that she would have slapped him if he was a lady but she dare not. His look scares her. "Mom, she called again"
"Ehmmm, it's nothing daughter, don't worry. You should enter" She said looking down, ashamed to face her daughter.
If your mother is not ready to talk, I'm. "She is owing rent and she needs to pay up or I send her out."
"Mom, how much are you owing?" She asked with confidence. Christian had placed her on a ten thousand dollars salary monthly, this is way more than what she would have made annually if she was working as a secretary.
"I…I…I am owing him five thousand dollars" she said with tears in her eyes.
"I will pay you. Give me your account number so I can make a transfer " He faced the man while pressing her phone.
Charlotte made the payment and the man left.
"I'm sorry you had to pay my debt on your return, I will refund you bit by bit monthly " She said ,tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Refund me? You don't have to do tha mom" Charlotte walked up to her pulling her in a hug.
She whispered to her ear "Mom, I miss you" She felt sorry for betraying her. She wouldn't be in this state if she had obeyed her.
"I miss you too. I would have come visiting but I don't want to have anything to do with the Westwood family." Elena replied her.
"It's fine mom, I'm here now. I will be here for a long time" She said happily
Her mother was surprised. Won't she go to work?, She thought. "What about your work?" She asked with curiosity.
"I…. I…. I'm on my annual leave" She struggled to speak at first but she found a worthy lie to cover up.
"So, you have been spending your annual leave alone instead of you to come and visit me? Anyways, it's good to have you hear" Elena said joyfully.
She added "I will live with a plus one for a while. What will you eat"?
"Serve me whatever you have mom, leg me undress and take my shower" She said heading to her room.
Few minutes later she returned from her room wearing a shot below her thigh and a white tee, her hair falling on her body.
"Mom, what are you cooking?This aroma is making me salivate" She shouted with excitement while heading to kitchen
"Creamy mashed potatoes with gravy and roasted vegetables , your favorite when you were young," She replied.
She joined her mother in the kitchen to fasten up the cooking and as well set up the table.
"Mom, it's always nice to eat your food. I missed that I won't lie" She said after the meal.
"I missed cooking for you too" She replied with tears in her eyes.
"Charlotte, I apologize for the scenes that happened earlier. I had plans to pay his money, I was robbed of my savings that is why I haven't paid." All this she said without looking at her daughter.
"Mom, if I was in your shoes you would have done that too" Don't say that again, let's enjoy the moment Charlotte replied.
"That's true. How long will you be here? I'm entitled to have annual leave too, I could take some weeks off" She asked.
"A month. That's so thoughtful of you." She is sad that she lying to her mom but she had to mask the moment with happiness.
They spent hours at the dining sit talking and gisting. It was a beautiful moment between them.
She was about to sleep when she received a text from an unknown" Thank you for leaving, don't show up again".
This spoiled her mood, she was going to sleep happily but it was ruined. She planned to get a new phone on the following day and start a new life.
