. It’s 8:00 pm. I had just taken a long bath, which to be honest, I definitely needed. I walked into my living room wearing my purple fur bath robe with a glass of my best California Chardonnay. I sat on the couch and began dialing a number. ..picks on the first ring… “Detective Monroe ?” I asked, swirling my glass of wine There’s a slight pause “Speaking.” He replied, calm but firm. “This is Priscilla Wright. Daughter of Arthur Wright, Future CEO…. “Get to the point Ma’am” he cuts in sharply. “I’m in the middle of something” “I want you to investigate some documents regarding the Tennex scandal.” I said. “Meet me tomorrow at 10AM. Old Oaks Street, second house by your left.” He says, ending the call immediately before I could even respond. I took a good look at my phone screen, marveled at the detective’s attitude. But instantly shoves away the thought from my mind, resuming on my wine. . . It’s 9:30 AM. I hurriedly check my bags for my keys. I frantically search my apartment almost turning it upside down. I went to my room and found it laying on-top of the dresser. “You little rascal!” I said grabbing it quickly. I hurried down the stair case, and ran into my car. Turned on the ignition, and sped off. About 20 minutes later, I arrived at Old Oaks Street. The street looked old and deserted. Like a place where elderly people lived. It was extremely quiet and chilly. The sounds one would hear were the sounds of chirping birds and sirens every now and then. I parked in front of the second building, came down and walked towards the building described to me yesterday. I ring the bell by the door lintel. Few seconds later, a middle aged man, slightly opened the door, wearing a bath robe with a cup of coffee in his hand. “Your late” Detective Monroe said sternly, sipping his coffee as he enters inside. “Only by 3 minutes?” I scoffed. Detective Monroe turned to look at me, sternly. “Where are the documents?” he said, stretching his hands to collect them. I immediately reached for the files in my bag and hand them over to him. “So what do we have here?” He asked, scanning them. “Well, someone from Tennex tried to frame me. I suspect some of the staff.” “And why would they do that?” He asked, chuckling. “Four days ago, Tennex celebrated her 30 years Anniversary. My Dad, Arthur Wright announced his retirement in 6 months and declared me as the new CEO. Moments later, those scandalous pictures of me and our former company investor appeared on the screen.” “Well who do you think it was?” Detective Monroe asked, looking at me “I don’t know” I said, rolling my eyes. “Isn’t that supposed to be your job to find out?” “You know, for a future CEO, you aren’t so smart” He said smiling “Excuse me?” “I asked for suspects! Surely you must suspect someone.” “Well for starters, my uncle Victor. He was acting really weird. He was looking at me strangely. And earlier on before the scandal, I was in the restroom, I heard a voice.. so familiar, almost like his voice.” “What did he say?” He asked, looking curious. “That spoilt brat cannot win, we have to take her down” Detective Monroe nods and takes notes “Anyone else ?” “Nathan Cole. My Dad’s right hand man. He said something to me yesterday. It was something someone sent to me on the day of the gala after the whole scandal. Game on. Detective Monroe continues to take notes. “Also, weird looks from other staff members during the gala.” I added. Detective Monroe heaves a long sigh. “Alright. These are all your suspects?” I nodded. “We have to get into the system to find the main culprits. Not only are there hints of jealousy, but someone seems to be embezzling the company’s funds. The receipts documents aren’t fake but the details were forged. These people were calculative enough, knew your whereabouts enough to forge your travel details and cover up their tracks. Unfortunately, they weren’t as successful as they thought they would be. We have to investigate the company’s finances and trace the withdrawals. To find that out, you’ll have to get into the system.” “I thought of going undercover.” I said. “Brilliant. That’s one smart thing you’ve said since our meeting.” He said chuckling. (slightly annoyed) “If you’ll excuse me Detective, I have a press conference to attend in 30 minutes.” “The earlier you find out about these people, the better. Your life might be next.” “Have a nice day Mr Monroe.” I said sharply, getting up from the chair. “Detective Monroe!” He said, as I left his apartment.
