Chapter 3 - Mates

2010 Words
Damon's POV It doesn't take long for us to prepare to attack after we leave the girl. The girl was very detailed with her description of the layout of this place. It seems that everyone right now is in the lobby or one of the floors below; that's where we are going to focus the majority of our teams, only sending a few wolves upstairs to do a sweep and see what they find. Axel sent a few guys off to the nearest hardware store to buy every pair of bolt cutters they had. I'm sure we could break the chains, but they look like they could be silver, and I don't want to take any chances weakening any guys on the teams, not with all these vampires walking around. It's almost midnight before the guys got back with bolt cutters. Every unit is given a pair to free any girls they see. Axel will lead the teams upstairs while Colton and I are going to lead the teams going downstairs. We will then split up in order to cover more ground. It's a solid plan, and we have the element of surprise; we should be in and out in under 30 minutes; the only real obstacle is killing all the vampires before they can hurt any of the girls. Right now, all the teams are splitting up to get into position, making sure to cover every entrance. I want to kill as many vampires as possible, but our main focus is freeing the girls. The doctors are on standby at a safe distance, and we will have people stationed at every door to usher girls to safety. There is nothing that could go wrong or slow us down. I give the signal, and we all enter the building, guns drawn. I'm the first in the building, followed by Colton and our team, then Axel and his team; we scan the lobby for anyone. There is no one at the front desk like there was before. It is late; they probably aren't getting many new clients tonight. I hear noise in the far end of the lobby coming from behind a door. There must be people back there. I look at Cole and give him a slight nod. Axel's team breaks off to head up the stairs, Colton and his team head to the door, and my team follows me downstairs towards the strip club. We break thru the strip club door, and every head turns towards us. I fire a shot at the nearest vampire; he drops to the floor; he isn't dead, just in pain. I hear screams from the girls. The humans all get up to run out. We let them go; our fight isn't with them right now. The last one has barely exited the room before a second vampire appears from the back; two of my team members quickly jump on him to kill him while another comes from the back of the group with the bolt cutters, cutting the chain off a nearby girl. She runs out in tears. The team fans out quickly, neutralizing all the vampires. Before we are done clearing the room, Colton's team enters. He nods, and they proceed to walk to the door that leads to the room with private dances we were in earlier. I climb on the stage, and Ed, the guy on my team with bolt cutters, follows me. There are probably more girls backstage and more vampires. We walk backstage to see a row of girls on the ground doing the weird tornado drill thing the girl was doing earlier. What's with that? All the girls have cuffs around their wrists that, at a glance, look like they are keeping their hands attached to their collars. There are three men around the room with their eyes red. I raise my gun to shoot one while another jumps on my back. Ed whacks him with the bolt cutters knocking him off me. Ed kills him while I aim for the other two. Once the girls leave, we will kill them properly. "Damon, you need to see this!" I hear Colton yell from down the hall. I leave Ed to cut the chains off the girls while more of my guys take care of the vampires. I walk towards the entrance that Colton yelled from. I look into the doors of the rooms used for private dances. One of my warriors was in every room trying to help the girls break their chains. I hear one on the phone with someone outside telling them to bring lots of blankets. That's good; every one of these girls is practically naked. They're only wearing bras and underwear; they need something to cover themselves. Some rooms have dead vampires, and there is a dead one on the floor leaning against the wall a few feet behind me. I check in every room but don't see Colton. "DAMON!" Cole yells, sounding even more panicked than before. It's coming from the end of the hall, but I'm standing at the last door at the end of the hall. I walk to the wall, inspecting it. There has to be something I'm missing. It looks like a normal wall. After a second of staring at it, I sigh and lean against the wall next to me. As I put weight on it, the wall begins to turn, showing a staircase behind the wall. I was right; there is a secret door. Axel appears at my side. "What is it?" Axel says "I don't know yet. Colton just told me to come to take a look." I replied, not taking my eyes off the stairs. "I'll have teams wait up here for a second while we take a look." Axel answers. "We found a few girls upstairs but no vampires. I left some of the team up there to free them. These girls had on even less than the ones down here do." He continues. "Good thing we are here then," I say while walking to the top of the stairs. The metallic smell of blood filling my nose mixed with dust, sweat, and.... lavender? I guess, so the vampires don't go insane from the constant overwhelming smell of blood. I take a deep breath smelling for Colton. He is definitely down there; he smells like cheeseburgers, probably because he eats them about six times a day. Axel and I start down the stairs, where the smell only gets stronger. We come to a landing; there is a floor here, and the stairs keep going down, meaning there is at least one more floor below us. Axel and I split up; I stop at this floor to investigate whatever it is Colton wants me to see. Axel waits here for some warriors to join him before going down further. I open the door leading from the stairwell to the floor. The smell of blood and lavender grew stronger. Axel covers his nose and gags. "Oh my god. It smells like something died in there!" He coughs out. "It's not that bad. The lavender helps cover it up." I shrug. "What?" I enter and shut the door, so Axel doesn't have to keep smelling it. I guess he doesn't like lavender. He's such a drama queen. I look around. The door leads to a large room similarly decorated to the strip club, with ugly red wallpaper, black trim, almost no lights. There is a big round seat in the middle of the floor and a few seats scattered throughout the room. There are two other doors, one directly across from me that is open and empty and one in the middle of the wall to the right that is only slightly ajar. I slowly follow the smell of blood, cheeseburgers, and lavender; all the scents are getting stronger, meaning I'm getting closer to whatever Colton wants me to see. I open the door and see Colton sitting on the floor in the middle of the room, facing away from me. He looks like he is kneeling over a sweatshirt on the ground. The smell of lavender fills my nose, making it hard to concentrate. "DAMON!" Colton yells again "I'm here, chill. You don't have to yell so loud." "Good, you're here," he says while looking at me, then standing up. "You need to see this. From what I gather, this is a blood bank." He gestures towards the sweatshirt on the ground. It takes me a second to register that there is someone in the sweatshirt. The hood completely covers her head, and she is in the fetal position with the sweatshirt pulled down over her legs. I can only just barely see part of her feet. I feel my wolf start howling in my head. "By the looks of her, they drained her of nearly every drop of blood-"Colton says, but I can't hear him over the sound of my wolf howling, clawing to take over. What's going on? He is never like this. "What are you saying? Calm down." I tell my wolf. "I can't-" The girl groans and rolls herself over on her back. Colton bends down to speak to her touching her face. Then I feel wolf take over, shoving me to the back of my mind and turning my eyes black. "MINE!" My wolf says, suddenly furious. Colton snaps his head to me with a shocked expression on his face. I don't wait for him to say anything. I charge at him, pushing him away from my mate. Wait- my mate?... My. Mate....my mate? What the f**k is going on "Are you sure this is our mate?" I ask my wolf. "She's mine!" He growls out loud. Colton raises both hands in surrender. Then it hit me. Axel saying, "It smells like something died in there," the overpowering metallic smell of blood, Colton saying, "they drained her of nearly every drop of blood," and the sound of her groaning in pain. Mate is here, and she is hurt. I bend down, pulling her into my arms. "Colton finish doing a sweep of the building. I'm taking her to the doctor," I order. "You can't leave with her. She is still chained-" I reach up, grabbing ahold of the chain and rip it apart before Colton can even finish his sentence, completely ignoring the burning from the silver. Colton just sighs and shakes his head. I pick her up in my arms as gently as I can. She weighs practically nothing; she is just a bag of bones. As I pick her up, she starts to stir. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Slave Girl's POV Pain. My whole body hurts. Like it always does after a night of working in the blood bank. Even with my eyes closed, I feel the whole room spinning. Master took a lot of blood. I feel like I could be sick. My stomach hurts, my back is on fire from the whipping, my head is all jumbled. And worst of all, Master says he is going to sell me soon. I don't want to go. I want to stay here with Master. I want to be a better slave for Master. I faintly register the sound of two voices talking. I can't make out what they are saying. But I know it's not right. After Master leaves, he always just leaves me here until I feel good enough to go back to my cage by myself. He never sends people to move me. Master has also never said he might sell me before. He sent these people to get me so he can sell me! No, no, no. I can't. I don't want to go! I want to stay here. I feel someone pick me up. This is it. I have to fight! I don't care about the punishment; I want to stay here. I don't care if I die; I already feel like I'm most the way there, but I'd rather die than be taken away from here.
