The whispering wind

Chapter 4: Neil tucked the second puzzle card carefully into her bag, her heart still racing from the library encounter. “I speak without a mouth, and hear without ears. I have nobody, but I come alive with wind. Find me before the bell rings.” She stared at the words. Speak without a mouth… come alive with wind… what on earth is that? Zoe nudged her. “So… do you have any idea where to start? Or are we just chasing magical riddles all day?” Neil grinned, excitement bubbling in her chest. “I don’t know, but I’m guessing it’s not under the cafeteria tables this time.” They darted down the hallway, searching for anything that might “come alive with wind.” Near the science labs, the hall was quiet, and sunlight poured in through the tall windows. Neil’s eyes scanned the area. A small breeze rustled some papers near the open window. She stepped closer, the pen in her bag vibrating softly. It’s leading us somewhere… There, tucked under a row of potted plants near the window, she spotted a small, metallic tube with tiny holes almost like a miniature wind chime. Neil picked it up. The moment her fingers touched it, a soft whispering sound filled the air: “Well done, Neil. You’re learning quickly. But remember… someone watches from the shadows.” Neil froze, glancing around. Across the hallway, partially hidden by a pillar, was the mysterious classmate again. His eyes seemed to gleam with amusement. Zoe leaned close, whispering, “Do you think he’s… helping us? Or is he just… creepy?” Neil shrugged. “Either way, he’s part of this puzzle. We just have to be faster.” The metallic tube had a folded note inside. Neil opened it: “Your next clue is where water flows and secrets hide. Trust only what you see with your eyes, not what you hear.” Neil groaned. “Water… secrets… okay, this is definitely the bathroom. Or maybe the fountain?” Zoe laughed nervously. “We’re following magical riddles through a school like it’s some kind of treasure hunt. Only we could get stuck in this.” Neil tucked the note into her bag and glanced at the glowing pen. It shimmered as if nodding. Ready or not, the next challenge awaits. As the bell rang, signaling the end of the period, Neil and Zoe exchanged determined glances. Today’s adventure had taken a strange turn, and there was no going back. Riverside High was no longer ordinary and neither was Neil.
