Augustina had carefully prepared for the interview at the billionaire's business empire to guarantee secure the job, aware of the significance this opportunity held for her and her family. She arrived at the grand, modern building that housed the company well ahead of her scheduled appointment, giving herself ample time to collect her thoughts and calm her nerves.
Upon entering the impressive lobby, she was greeted by the polished marble floors, towering indoor palms, and a sense of professional elegance that permeated the atmosphere.
"Good morning", she greeted the receptionist.
"Good morning and welcome to De Joe conglomerate." Greeted the receptionist.
"If you are here for the job interview please come this way."
The receptionist directed her to the waiting area, where she found herself surrounded by other candidates who were vying for the same role.
"Good morning everybody", Augustina directed her greeting not at a particular person but in general. She seemed to have gained her voice and confidence back and was ready to tackle any question as a football defender would on the soccer pitch.
The anticipation in the room could be felt in the atmosphere, and Augustina used the time to review her resume and rehearsed answers to potential interview questions, as well as take deep breaths to quell her jitters.
A female voice announced through the speakers was tactically positioned to ensure that each participant heard who was next to be interviewed.
The interview panel consisted of several high-ranking executives, including Robert Joe himself, although she was initially unaware of his true identity.
"The next person is Augustina Brooks", announced the voice.
"Oh… I am next "
she said to herself as she was escorted to a tastefully decorated meeting room, complete with a mahogany table and plush leather chairs.
The questions that followed were a mix of standard interview queries and those intended to gauge her suitability for the position. Augustina answered with confidence, her determination shining through as she discussed her qualifications, her commitment to excellence, and her drive to provide for her ailing mother.
As the interview progressed, Augustina couldn't help but notice a distinct and enigmatic aura surrounding one of the interviewers—Robert Joe. She had no idea what connection he had with the business empire. His presence, while intimidating, also sparked a sense of curiosity in her, and his penetrating gaze seemed to search her soul.
The first interviewer, who was also the Human Resource Manager, asked "Augustina, can you tell us about your previous secretarial experience and how it has prepared you for this role?"
Augustina leaned forward, her voice steady as she recounted her past experiences.
"I possess organizational skills and always pay attention to details". She emphasized.
" My previous positions had honed my ability to manage a high volume of tasks efficiently", she opined with enthusiasm that portrayed she was indeed ready to deliver the task even though she was yet to be hired.
The look on the interviewer's face showed indifference as he wrote his observation and judgment in a file jacket.
"In this role, you may need to handle sensitive and confidential information. How do you ensure discretion in your work?" Another question from the second interviewer looked as though the answer would be read on Augustina's face and not in her words.
"My previous employers placed in me and my commitment to maintaining confidentiality at different times. My respect for privacy and my adherence to company policies were of very high priority", Augustina enthused.
The third interviewer was the stranger she met in the elevator-Robert Joe, unbeknownst to Augustina.
"Tell us about a time when you had to handle a challenging situation at work. How did you solve it?"
His gaze scanned through the entirety of Augustina and she almost lost her voice again.
Augustina summoned the courage to find her voice again.
"I can recollect a specific incident where a last-minute project threatened to derail a team's progress. In detail, I calmly assessed the situation, assigned tasks efficiently, and, through clear communication, ensured that the project was completed on time".
The question coming this time was from the fourth interviewer.
"Augustina, our company values adaptability and teamwork. Can you give us an example of how you've demonstrated these qualities in your previous roles?"
Augustina gained back her momentum of the previous vigor in her answer this time.
"I have the natural ability to work well under pressure, adapt to changing circumstances, and collaborate effectively with colleagues. There are real-life examples of projects where my adaptability and teamwork have been critical to success", she said confidently.
The last person to ask an interview question was Robert Joe, still incognito.
"What motivates you to excel in your career, Augustina?"
Augustina spoke from the heart in her expression.
"My dedication to my family, particularly my ailing mother, and the desire to provide her with the best care possible is an energetic force for me and has been getting me going in life". Sincerity shone through as she explained that her family's well-being was her primary motivation.
These questions not only allowed the interview panel to assess Augustina's qualifications but also offered her the opportunity to demonstrate her professionalism, problem-solving abilities, and deep personal motivation, which would later become a central theme in her romance story with Robert Joe.
