Costly Mistake

MY SON DIED “Son! Please, don't do this to me!” I threw myself on the ground in anguish. “Don't do this to me, please!” I wailed aloud. He turned his weak gaze towards me, amidst groans. Blood dripped from his body. Oh! How I wish I could take his place instead. I wish I could take off the bitter pain he was wallowing in, and bear it in his stead. I couldn't stand the sight of my son. Each time I looked at him, I wanted to run mad. What had he done to deserve this? If anyone had to go through this, it didn't have to be him. He was peace and love personified, but the troubles of this wicked world couldn't let him be. I had never seen anyone look this miserable since I was born. It was no mother's wish, to witness the death of her child; no mother's wish! But here I was, witnessing my beloved son, slowly drifting into the arms of death, and I could do nothing about it. He was the first fruit of my womb, a young man with a promising future, he was different from the rest of my children, his star was bright. Hot tears ran down my face without restrictions. I tore my clothes in grief; I couldn't bear the pain I felt within. “Oh God! Don't let him die” I prayed, but what happened next, made me believe that the heavens had shut me out. My son screamed with a loud voice, said some words, and it happened. He gave up the ghost! The whole world seemed to pause for a moment. This looked like a dream, and I wasn't ready to believe it. “No!!!” I got up with the speed of lightening, and headed for a large stone, on which I planned to throw myself. My husband was fast; he quickly got hold of me. He held me tightly to himself. I felt drops of liquid on my hair; it was his tears. I wailed. We both could feel each other's grief. The upper part of my dress was soaked in tears. I was devastated. My son was gone. __ “He's alive! He's alive!!” The three women screamed on top of their voices as they ran towards our house. Startled, I ran out to meet them. “What's the matter? What are you saying?” I asked. The joy on their faces as they spoke, was indescribable. I couldn't understand. “What's going on? Talk to me” I grew impatient. “Mary, he's alive! The tomb is empty. His body is no longer there. Your son, Jesus, is alive! “No, tell me this is a joke!” I was experiencing different emotions at the same time. “Come! Come and see the empty tomb.” Joanna took me by the hand as we all ran towards the tomb. My eyes widened in shock and surprise. I was awestruck. “My son! My son is alive!! Jesus is risen!” I jumped for joy when I confirmed what I had been told. With all the strength I had left in me, I joined the women, as we ran back home to spread the news. Jesus had risen, and everyone was going to hear of it! They surely were! *****
