(Elle’s POV)
The night had been nice and friendly to the celebrant. The stars sparkled like tiny diamonds in the sky, and despite having no moon for tonight, it was beautiful. Caleb’s sudden proposal to Apple seemed to have scared the fireflies because not even a single firefly lit the trees. Only the crickets made noises, joining us in our mini celebration.
We sat on the mat with the bonfire Aiden lit right before we began the celebration. With the bonfire in the middle, Caleb and Apple sat beside each other while Aiden and I sat across from them. We let Apple talk, and when she widened her eyes at me, giving me a signal to share more about our childhood, I shook my head, telling her it was her birthday and she should be the one telling our story to the gorgeous twins.
