It was already past seven in the morning when Dad and Mitch returned to the hospital. Seeing me sitting on the couch surprised them, but I couldn’t just leave them alone in the room. Mitch placed the fruit basket on the table and walked to Belle, checking on her youngest, and then she turned around to look at Elle.
My heartbeat was racing as I saw Mitch twitching her lips and squinting her eyes at her eldest daughter.
