Ashley's POV:
I'm getting excited about my first class. I got a little inspiration and wrote something. It's not that good, but I like how it turned out. My parents try to be supportive. I can tell they don't believe this will be a successful career. Some of the greatest authors were rejected before someone decided to publish their work. I still have some hope about my work. The classes will help me get better. Some people believe things after they see them. The same thing can happen with my parents. My roommate came a few days ago. She has a boyfriend and will spend the night with him. I'll have the room for myself. I'm sure she will get caught. I won't mess with this. It's her decision what she will do here. I still haven't met anyone else. I might do this when the classes start. I'll see who is there. It's not like I know anyone. No one from my high school should be here. At least, I don't know about this. Maybe that is better. I want to start from the beginning. I'll have new friends and a better life. I have hopes for something else, but I'll keep it for myself. There is a chance that nothing will happen. I don't want to jinx it. No one said that he would study here. I have to focus on the important things. Everything else doesn't matter. My priorities should take first place. It has always been like that. I hope my university journey will be better than the high school one.
It's my first day with classes. I'm excited about this. I plan to sit in the front row. Call me a teacher's pet, but I won't mind. That way, I'll hear better and will understand everything. It's not like I have some expectations. I wish I knew someone older. They can tell me what to expect from my classes and the university. My brother didn't study here. He graduated from the town where he found his love. I'm happy about him. He deserves it. Kylie is a great girl. I liked her since the moment we saw each other.
I woke up and went to get ready for my first class. My roommate wasn't here. Since she came here, she has slept with her boyfriend. I don't mind. This won't affect me in any way. I went to the bathroom. Later, I made my bed. I had bought some food yesterday. I quickly ate my sandwich and walked to class. I don't want to be late. The worst part of me is to talk with new people. I sat down without saying anything. Soon, the teacher came.
- Hello, students. I am your teacher. Mister Peter Collins. In this class, we'll discuss books and how they were written. You can get many ideas from your favorite authors. Some people read a book but don't pay attention to anything else except the story. If you want to write one, you should see how they describe everything. I mean, from the nature to the main characters. Everything looks simple when you read it for the first time. Once you get practice, you will become better. Our classes are only for debriefing. You will have another one. It will teach you how to write better and on different levels depending on the genre of the book or story.
- You talked about books. What type of books do you mean? - one girl asked
- Can you tell me your names when you talk? I want to remember my students.
- I'm Bella.
- Ok. Bella, we'll discuss different books. I already have a task for everyone. Is there anyone who doesn't read books?
- Why are you asking this? I'm Emma.
- Because they won't be able to do my task.
- I see.
- The task is simple. You should tell me what impressed you the most in your favorite book.
- Does it matter what genre the book is? I'm Ashley.
- No, it doesn't. It can be anything.
- Thanks.
- We'll have two tests this semester. There won't be theoretical questions. I'll give you a snippet of a book or a story. You have to answer questions related to the way it's written. For example, you should say what phrases were used.
- How long will the snippet be? - Emma asked
- Not more than one page. You will have the entire class to think about this.
- I believe it won't be the same for everyone.
- I was thinking about this, but many students were copying from each other, even with the mistakes. I haven't decided about this one yet. When the date for the test is closer, I'll tell you everything.
- Thank you.
- Are there more questions? If not, we can start with the first lesson. Emma, right? Can you pass these on to everyone?
- Yes, sure.
My next class was in the afternoon, so I planned to stay in my dorm. When this one finished, I picked up my things and walked out. So far, I liked it. It will be an interesting class. There is a lot to learn. I was walking in the hall when I bumped into someone. At least I didn't drop anything. I slowly looked up and left speechless. This can't be real. He was a tall, muscular, good-looking guy, with a smile brighter than the sun. I want to slap myself right now. He was screaming perfection. The problem is that I can't look away.
- Are you ok? Hello? Are you here?
- What?
- I asked if you were ok.
- Yes. I'm fine. Thanks.
- Thinking and walking is never good. Now, it's a person. The next time, it might be a car.
- Yes.
- Hopefully, you heard what I said. Bye.
- Bye.
- Who was that? - Emma asked
- Oh. Emma, right?
- Yes. Ashley?
- Correct.
- Who was that?
- I don't know. I was thinking about something and bumped into someone.
- There are many people here. Be careful.
- Why? Has something happened?
- No, but you can bump again. Where are you going now?
- In my dorm. Why?
- We can go out if you want. There is a coffee shop over there.
- This university has everything.
- True.
- If you don't have friends here, I can sacrifice myself for that. - she said, chuckling
- I don't.
- We can find some. Let's go. I want a table near the window.
- Why? Aren't all the tables the same?
- Yes, but you can see what everyone is doing.
- You like spying on people.
- I won't say spying, but yes.
- Alright. I have nothing better to do anyway.
- See?
- Let's go. Our next class is in the afternoon.
- They sell food here.
- I will be so lazy.
Both of us went to the coffee shop. We grabbed our drinks and sat at the table near the window. Soon, the same guy walked in with someone else. Maybe they are friends. I need to stop staring at him. It's creepy. He turned around and winked at me. Why I never felt this way when I was in high school? The other guy was an i***t. This guy fits the description of the main character of my book. The problem is that I can't tell him anything. The boys sat on a table across from hours. Turn around, Ashley! He won't go out with you.
- Do you have a boyfriend? - Emma asked
- What?
- I won't tell anyone.
- No, I don't. It almost happened, but I'm glad it didn't.
- Why? What went wrong?
- I realized what type of person he was.
- Sometimes, it happens. Maybe you should've tried.
- I couldn't. My ex-best friend asked him out. They were dating.
- Why would she do that?
- Because she is a b*tch. - I said, and she laughed
- Yes, sh*t happens.
- What about you?
- I didn't want to do this in high school. I think I'll find what I need here.
- If it's meant to be, it will happen.
- Is it me, or did that guy look at you?
- What? - I asked and turned around
- I got you!
- It's not funny.
- Go and say hi. I'm sure he won't push you away.
- After what happened in high school, I don't want to deal with boys for now.
- You can't let past trauma guide your life.
- It's not a trauma. Let's say that I want to focus on my classes.
- But you can't stop thinking about him. - she said, whispering
- Can we not talk about him? Please.
- If you can't say anything, write it down.
- What?
- Write him a note.
- To? I don't even know his name.
- You can ask for it.
- I better go to my dorm. The air became unbreathable.
- How poetic. - she said and laughed
I went to my dorm, straight to my bookshelf. I found the description I was looking for and wrote it down. The question is about how to give him the note. It can't be directly. Otherwise, he would know it was me. I went to get lunch and ate it in my room. I have no idea who he is, but he got my attention. It was more than anyone else. There are boys in my classes, but they can't compare. When I finished my last class of the day, I walked out. That is when I saw Bryan. What is he doing here? He never told me he would come.
- Bryan? What are you doing here? - I asked and hugged him
- I came to see you. Mom told me you were here. She gave me your schedule.
- Good.
- Do you want us to go to your dorm? I want to see how you decorated your room.
- Sure.
- I can't wait to bug you.
- I'm sorry. - I said and looked up
- It became a habit, huh? Be careful.
- Um, yes.
- Are you ok? You look like something has happened.
- Yes, no. I'm fine.
- If you say so. I'll see you around. - he said and left
- Who is that? - Bryan asked with a smirk
- Let's go. - I said and dragged him to my dorm
- You didn't answer my question. Is this your new boyfriend? He is tall.
- No, it's not. I have no idea who he is.
- Yeah, sure. Spill the tea, sis.
- I have nothing to spill. I bumped into him in the morning. I don't even know his name.
- Did you even ask?
- No. I couldn't do it.
- Why not?
- I can't even make a proper sentence.
- Do you like him? I haven't seen you like that with boys.
- I don't know. He has this effect.
- I will tell you not to waste your time.
- It's easy for you. Kylie will never leave you.
- Maybe he won't leave you either.
- That's a possibility.
- Why don't you talk with your best friend? She can tell you what to do.
- I don't know where she is now. I'll do this later. I want to rest.
- How was the first day? I'm sure you liked the classes.
- I did. It was great.
- As long as you like it, nothing else matters.
Bryan stayed with me until dinner time. He promised our parents to be at home. I thought Kylie would be with him. He said she had to work on a project. I don't know if this is the real reason, but I'll believe it. I can still call her. We understand each other well. She is like my big sister. I can talk with her about everything. About this boy. I better forget about him. I won't have a chance. I will still give him the note. I wrote the description from my book. Also, the name. He is the perfect reference. I never thought such a person existed. I hope that he won't find this ridiculous.
