Judy’s POV The night passed slowly; I wasn’t able to make any progress on our escape. Not that I thought we could escape, but I thought maybe I could find a weak point in the cage or have some kind of plan before the morning. Without there being any windows, it was difficult to know for sure what time it was. Irene leaned against me, and she ended up falling asleep from all the crying she’d been doing. But I wasn’t able to bring myself to actually fall asleep. I stayed awake the entire night, and when I heard the footsteps creaking on the floorboards above us, I made Irene lie down on the ground, while I lay beside her.
