Jewel
I don't know how long it's been since I have had that much fun in a day. Grief is such a weird thing. It's like a time-eating monster. Before you know it, months have gone by.
Right now, all three of us girls are in my room. The three of us girls are putting together our semi-formal outfits for the previous Alpha and Luna's anniversary party. I picked black. I already have black shoes and a silver bag to go with it.
"Jewel! You can't wear that! You look like you're going to a funeral; that cut, it just doesn't suit you." says Amanda as she tries on different shoes with the bright pink number that she bought.
"You should have told me in the store!" I say, rolling my eyes.
"Hold on! I have something that my mom bought me. She hates my love for pink and tries to get me to wear a different color every year." says Amanda as she leaves the room. Shortly after that, she comes back in with a jewel-toned blue lace dress. It's fitted with blue lace sleeves, and the back is lace only. She helps me into it, and it fits like a glove. It comes to right above my knee. Which is not normal; I'm 5'9, and most dresses are too short. She also hands me these silver earrings.
I sigh.
"This is too perfect not to accept," I say back.
"Good! Girl, you look hot!" says Lilly as she picks out earrings for her red dress.
"If you didn't have Alpha Sam's attention now, you will after he sees you in that dress. maybe you'll both get the Moon Goddesses' blessing! It'll be a full moon that night!" says Lilly, almost squealing.
"Sam's what? The Moon Goddesses, what? There's nothing going on between Sam and myself." I say, somewhat confused by her statement.
"Mmm.. okay. You don't have to tell us. Also, every Full Moon, the Moon Goddess will grant a second chance, mate! That's how my parents met." explains Lilly.
"No, seriously, there's not anything going on. Sam is my is my.." What is Sam to me? I should have a good answer for this.
"He is my Alpha from my marriage to Jake. That's it.".
"You don't sound too sure about that answer, Jewel," says Lilly teasing me.
"Even if the Moon Goddess made us second chance mates. I couldn't accept him. Jake was his best friend." I say, scrambling for a reason.
"Yes, Jake also would want both of you to be happy. The Alpha is so brooding and always seems to be thinking. He needs a good woman. Someone to light up his life." says Lilly to encourage me.
I couldn't accept him. It isn't right, is it?
Sam
The next week has been an absolute blur of activity. My mother, the previous Luna, has been ordering everyone around. She wants her and my father's anniversary party to be perfect. My sister Amber just arrived today. Her husband, the Alpha of the Redwood Pack, is also coming. My mother wants everything to be perfect for her son-in-law. It's Amber and Eric's first pack party as a married couple. So what do you do? You let the previous Luna plan her.. I mean their party.
Currently, I'm hiding in my office. Looking over our lumber businesses numbers. Homebuilding has gone up. So our sales have gone up, and that's a good thing to see. Pulling out another file and more numbers, but this time they were pack numbers. We're growing and need to expand our housing.
I send Jewel a mind link. She tells me that she's with Dr. Jane, but she'll stop by on her way back. Switching tasks for a little bit and bought more coffee stuff. It's becoming a hobby of mine to make good coffee. Just as I finish my order for a new type of beans, Jewel knocks and comes into my office.
"Here are the pack training numbers Alpha. Attendance is up. The teens have really been improving. I see a lot of potential in some of them to become great warriors. Several of the seniors have been asking to be put on patrol. I said that I'd mention it." she finishes with a smile.
"That's not a bad idea. Let's pair them with a mentor and get them started, but let's not put them on a full rotation until after they graduate. I don't need unhappy parents complaining about grades going down." I say with a grimace.
"Are you excited to see your family?" I ask. Filling the silence.
"Yes, I think so; they're like family to me," says Jewel.
I stop typing and look at Jewel.
"Like family? The previous Alpha introduced you as his daughter." I say, partially confused.
"I'm adopted. Everyone at the Redwood knows. I forgot that no one here knows. My parents were Alpha Alans' Omegas. They died in a pack attack when I was thirteen. So they adopted me. They loved me and taken care of me, but I had a close relationship with my birth parents. So my bond with Alan and Marie is different." explains Jewel.
"Ahh, that makes sense then. Why you don't seem to be in a rush to go home." I say understand more now.
"Yeah, between Jake and my parents. There are a lot of painful memories there. I appreciate staying here and having a fresh start. It soothes my soul in a way." replies Jewel.
"My mother says that mountains have their own healing powers. I usually laugh it off as her flower child ways, but now I can't. Seeing as that applies to you." I say, looking at Jewel.
"It's not just the mountains. It's the culture here in the pack. I am my own person here. I feel loved and cared for differently. Just the pack culture here seems closer. Since it's smaller. I feel at home here." says Jewel with a shrug.
"You could make it her home permanently; her wolf likes me. You just need to get her human to like you, and we will be all set." says my wolf in my mind.
I roll my eyes, and Jewel gives me a weird look.
"No, no, no, I wasn't rolling my eyes at you. My wolf Luke is being... needy right now. I'll probably go for a run after this." I say, recovering. Realizing that I rolled my eyes at a bad time.
"Would you like company on your run?" asks Jewel.
"Yes, yes you would," says Luke in my head.
"Company sounds great," I say with a smile.
