Tim had run blind, too hurt and angry to care where he ended up. He wasn’t sure why a rambling unpaved road beckoned, but it did. He passed a deserted farmstead, sad somehow in its loneliness and derelict condition. He could not help drawing a parallel to his seemingly useless and empty life. He stopped and walked around the area, wishing now he had brought his new camera. He’d never rival DeVore, but the old buildings seemed to have a story, one that the right photograph might tell. So did a few wild flowers growing where a rusty trough leaked a bit of water. After a time, he returned to the Jeep. Since the road went on, he’d follow it.
