VIOLET'S POV
The maid led me through the grand doors of the mansion, and down to a room at the far end of a long hallway. She pushed the door open and showed me in.
"This would be your room for now," She said to me.
I spun around, assessing the breathtaking scenery that stood before me. The room was far bigger than father's palace. A golden chandelier hung from the ceiling above, illuminating the room with an effervescent glow. The silk curtains were purple in color and embroidered with gold at the edges, and at the far end of the room, there was a King sized bed. I walked up to the bed and stared at it. The sheets were peach, spread perfectly across the bed, so that there was not even a single wrinkle on it. There was a huge fluffy pillow on the bed with the inscription "Welcome home, Violet" on it and I wondered how they knew my name before my coming.
As if she had been reading my mind, she smiled and fondled my cheeks.
"It was the best I could do to make you comfortable, Violet," She muttered. "Life here isn't always as easy as it seems - "
Her voice trailed off and I could see the tears that etched at the corner of her deep blue eyes, waiting for one more emotional outburst to be released.
"Are you also one of his - "
I paused as I thought of the exact term I could use to classify us.
"Whores? Playthings?" She chuckled. "Yes. But far worse. I'll tell you, Violet. You're very lucky it's Kian who found you."
From what I had seen right from my father's palace, I didn't think I was very lucky.
"Kian doesn't like to share," She continued. "You'll be his alone, for as long as you can keep your head low. But Axel..."
"Axel?" I frowned. "Who's that?"
Like someone pricked by a needle, she jumped up from the bed where we sat.
"There's a party by the left wing of the mansion, Violet. Don't wander there," She warned. "I have some duties to attend to."
She ran off before I could remember that I had not asked her name yet and I spent the next thirty minutes staring at the ceiling.
Finally, I decided to kill the time by taking a stroll around the mansion. I walked out of the room, and locked the door behind me. The hallway was still empty as I walked through and in a matter of minutes, I was at the other end.
I could hear the sound of the music from the left wing of the mansion and it was calling out to me. I remembered the maid's advise but I shrugged it off immediately. She was just being overprotective of me. Surely, I could sneak in for a few minutes without getting caught.
I discovered I was wrong too late.
As I got to the door, it slid open on its own, and I walked right in. The whole place was filled to the the brim with guests and just then, I noticed something - they were all on masks.
"s**t!" I cursed in my head.
With my blazing red hair and an unmasked face, I was definitely going to stand out.
I spun around, eager to cut short my stay at the party, and that was when things got worse.
Alpha Kian was approaching from a distance, his eyes fixed on me. Surprisingly, all that remained of his long black dreads were crops of black strands standing on end. He seemed a little taller from the distance, and he walked with the air and authority of someone who was untouchable.
He stopped right in front of me and gazed down at me, so intently that my legs quivered.
"Who are you?" He growled.
His voice was deeper, richer, more exotic, and I struggled to get a grip of myself.
"Vi-vi-violet," I stammered. "Your - "
He inched closer to me till our bodies touched and I could feel his harsh breath against my face.
"My what?"
"Brother!" A familiar voice called.
I turned to the direction of the voice, and I gasped when I saw Alpha Kian and Alpha Perseus standing before the man. He towered over them by some inches.
"Kian," the man hissed. "I expected you to present Darius' head to me as discussed."
My heart skipped a beat at his words. It was my father they were speaking of with so much disrespect.
"He has paid off his debts, brother," Alpha Kian replied with a smile. "Is that the way you welcome your little brother home from a long journey?"
The man snorted before turning to face me.
"Did any of you invite her here?"
Alpha Kian glanced across at me and even under the dim lighting, I could see his face burning red.
"She's my latest conquest," Alpha Kian grunted.
The man turned to assess me properly. His dark eyes bored into mine for the better part of a minute and when he turned back to Alpha Kian, he shook his head.
"I like this one, Kian," He growled. "Perhaps, we can share."
"Axel!" Alpha Kian snarled.
"It's Alpha Axel," The man corrected.
At that moment, my head started spinning. I was standing before the very man that the maid had spoken of, the first of the triplets, and Alpha of the Black Bay Pack, Alpha Axel. My legs quivered and I fell to the floor.
The music stopped playing at once. Everyone's attention was now on the red head damsel on the floor.
"Is she okay?"
"I think she's drunk."
"Poor lady. She should go home."
Everyone had an advise or two to give to me, but only one man actually tried to help. He reached out to me and I stared reluctantly at his outstretched hand.
"Come on," He urged me. "A pretty lady like you shouldn't be on the floor."
I should have followed my instincts and ignored his hand, but he seemed like a nice person.
I took his hand and immediately wished I hadn't.
A jolt of electricity surged through my body and in the mini - second that our fingers touched, a thousand vivid images spammed my head - images of the man's life.
Why the hell did we have that connection? It sure meant one thing - he was my mate.
I knew Kian was a fraud!
"Mate!" I cried, rising up to my feet. "You're my mate."
The triplet brothers watched the drama without a word, and the man backed away, slowly.
"I don't think so, miss - "
"You are!" I cried. I turned to face Alpha Kian. "You f*****g liar! You tricked my Father!"
As I was yet speaking, the man howled. He shifted into a huge grey wolf with black beady eyes and as quick as I could blink, he tore across the room and dove through the open window into the night.
It was definitely not like the previous rejections, but it was still the same result.
I had been rejected again, but this time, by my fated mate.
