Chapter SevenZero had hiked away from the house and barn while the Shades slept, up to a pile of sandstone boulders that she climbed up. She hid herself in a cranny between them, giving her the illusion of being alone. She needed space. Her ability to keep her thoughts and feelings to herself was frayed and she knew that she was intruding on at least Maddie and Raven's heads.
She needed to get control again. She didn't let herself think about the fact that she'd only been in control before because her father had hidden her memories and abilities behind walls that she had asked Alaric to destroy.
Her father had succeeded, more than she ever imagined. It was his blocks that had kept her from realizing it. The memory of killing that man showed her how very well his experiments had succeeded
