I turned, like it was slow-motion, to face her.
“Ma’am, I swear I never meant to hurt her. May I drop dead right now if I didn’t shut down every single switch...”
“Maybe you did,” she said, her expression dark. “But that doesn’t mean my daughter didn’t get hurt because of your fight with the other Seraphina.”
I pressed my lips together hard. She had a point.
“You’re in a power war and you’re the one set up to lose,” she added, looking at Harper. “The second the prince stops favoring you, they’ll come for everyone who helped you. Everyone around you.”
I knew it was a warning. I lowered my head before I could stop myself.
I felt guilty. Ashamed. I never thought Miska would go that far.
