ISABELLA The days dragged by, flat and boring. Kiara was still in the hospital and, even though we tried again, we couldn’t sneak in to see her anymore. Her mother never took her eyes off her, or she’d station other caretakers with her. I was scared she could pull her out of the Academy and take her home at any moment. In class with Miska, I fought not to even look at her, because I could feel I wouldn’t be able to control myself. Kaden wasn’t around much either. He’d disappear into training, and I knew he was handling things from the shadows. I missed him. No point lying about it. I spent my free hours in the Alchemy lab, helping Professor Leonardo and tracking down the location of some ingredients from the list. Leonardo didn’t seem so incredible and perfect anymore... nothing
