Why was I rejected?

Chapter 02

She's gone, Alfa, we've just spoken to her father and he's confirmed it, Aurora is no longer with us"

I didn't understand why, but I could still feel Aurora, smell her, even though we had sworn an oath of rejection. Her heartbeat quickened, her body felt my distance, the sadness that took over her whole body, I felt every detail of Aurora, but the bond had begun to weaken in recent days, I knew it was dangerous, that it was better to keep her away, but I couldn't stand it and so I asked my omega to go and find her .

"Alpha, Mr. Marcus, Aurora's father, asked us not to come any closer, that it was enough to have caused his daughter pain and asked for a little respect".

"Fair enough"

Yes, it was, but it was stronger than me. Knowing that she was no longer on the Pack's premises brought me relief, we were being attacked and I still hadn't found out why, several members of the Pack had been killed, even within our territory and even with my soldiers protecting our perimeter.

I suspected where the affront was coming from, even the motive, but I wasn't sure, it seemed too crazy, as if my mind was playing tricks on me, after all, he had died, hadn't he? And even if that was the case, by some miracle of the goddess, why was all this happening? He still hadn't revealed himself to me. I was still stuck in my thoughts when a group of soldiers came running into my room, carrying a child in their arms, all bloodied up, but she was still alive, another victim, another innocent person being targeted in a power struggle.

"What happened?".

"We heard a distress call coming from inside the forest and went to meet the sound. A she-wolf was whimpering next to the child, wounded, she didn't resist, but the child..."

"Take her to hospital, look after her and increase security, I don't want anyone else to get hurt, understand?"

They left, leaving me worried inside the office. Things were getting out of hand, I had to find out what was really going on. It wasn't long before one of the employees knocked on the door and came to meet me, box in hand, saying that he had found the package on the doorstep of the headquarters where my family and I lived.

"What's this?"

There was no sender, on the outside of the box it just said that the package was addressed to me. I picked it up, shook it and nothing came of it. The package was so light that, even though I was afraid, I opened it and as soon as I saw the contents of the box, I almost fell backwards . . . It was Aurora . . . photos of her in a place I didn't recognize and a note saying that there was no point in me keeping my Luna away, that whoever it was watching me.

I had to find Aurora, I had to find a way to keep her safe, and I had to find a way for that rejection to be respected.

"What's with the face, alpha?"

My Beta entered the room to find me whiter than a piece of paper.

"Did something happen? Something with the pack, with the found child?

"I think it has to do with everyone . . . Beta, I need to find another companion as soon as possible, I need to establish my bond with her, a woman who is strong, determined, who is worthy of being Luna of the Blood Moon Pack"

"So you've really accepted rejection?"

"It's for the best"

"Okay, so I think I know a woman worthy of being your Luna"

How can he be the alpha of our Pack? How can he be from the lineage of the Supremes? Aiden is weak, predictable, pathetic.

All it took was a scare for him to reject that girl, oh dear, just a scare. The thing is, standing next to him, I got to know his weaknesses, his fears, even his dreams. He just wants to be good enough to make his father proud, to be a worthy Alpha for the Pack, he has no ambition, he doesn't care about power.

Death... what is death? Perhaps just an idea we put into the minds of people who say they love us. I grew up being asked to be the best, the perfect big brother, the one who was supposed to be the Supreme of the Blood Moon Pack and who could never, ever make a mistake.

I was envious of the life my brother Aiden led, with no worries, just the brother of the future alpha, that's all, his responsibilities were nowhere near mine. There came a time when I couldn't take the pressure any longer, I confess I was a coward, I faked my death, I ran away from the pack, I needed to breathe, I needed to be just Joshua, so I went to live with the humans.

Lili, my companion, didn't understand at first, she wanted to be a Luna, she wanted to attend those boring etiquette classes and be respected by all the wolves, but in the end, I managed to convince her that it would be better this way, because she wouldn't be able to stand it if I left either.

Five years... it took me five years to realize that yes, I want my position back and I'll do anything to get it, even go over my brother Aiden's head.

I found out who your Luna is, and it wasn't difficult to get close to her, take some photos and send them to Aiden, with a few threatening lines. I knew him, I knew exactly what he was going to do. All said and done, Aurora was gone, he was without the strength of his predestined companion, which made everything easier for me, or so I thought .

"What?"

"We ambushed the alpha on the way to the pack, he'd gone to sort something out in town, and we took advantage of it, but we couldn't stop him, he's too strong."

That was an affront to my ears.

"Too strong? What do you mean, there were twenty of you, how did Aiden manage to get away unscathed?"

"He used his alpha aura, and we were practically petrified, we couldn't even get close to him properly"

The moon goddess had passed on my legacy to Aiden, it was obvious, that aura belonged to me, that power too, I wasn't going to let him have my destiny, Aiden was a usurper. It doesn't matter if I ran away, if, for a moment, I was crazy enough to give up all my privileges, what matters is that I want everything that's mine back and that's it, I'm going to go over his head.

I wanted to use the predestined one against Aiden, but I knew that, with the rejection, nothing connected Aurora and Aiden anymore, just the memory that one day they were both gone and that irritated me, I had to find something that left him completely vulnerable.
