CHAPTER FOUR THE HIDDEN RECORD Liana barely spoke as Kael led her back into the mansion. The moment they entered the hallway, several guards rushed toward them. “Alpha, should we search the forest?” Kael's expression remained cold. “No. Double the guards around the estate instead.” “Yes, Alpha.” The guards immediately obeyed. Liana watched them leave before turning toward Kael. “You still haven't answered me.” Kael looked at her. “About what?” “The stranger.” “I don't know who he was.” “He knew my name.” Kael said nothing. “He also knew about my family,” Liana continued. “And he said you don't know what I am.” Kael's jaw tightened. “I heard him.” “Then tell me the truth.” “I will.” “When?” “When I have the truth to tell.” Liana stared at him in disbelief. “That doesn't make me feel better.” “I know.” He turned toward Ethan, who had just entered the hallway. “Bring the records to my study.” Ethan nodded. “Which records?” “The Vale records.” Ethan's expression changed. “You're certain?” “Yes.” Liana noticed the exchange. “What are the Vale records?” Neither man answered immediately. Liana crossed her arms. “Apparently everyone knows something about my family except me.” Ethan looked uncomfortable. Kael finally spoke. “Come with me.” They entered Kael's private study. Unlike the rest of the mansion, the room was filled with books, old documents, maps, and shelves covered in dusty records. Liana looked around. “You keep all this?” “Pack history.” Ethan placed an old wooden box on the desk. Kael opened it. Inside were several yellowed documents. He picked up the first one. “This record was written twenty-two years ago.” Liana stepped closer. “What's written on it?” Kael read silently for a moment. His expression changed. “What?” He handed the paper to Ethan. Ethan read it and frowned. “This can't be right.” “What?” Liana demanded. Kael took the document back. “Your father wasn't an ordinary pack member.” Liana's heart began beating faster. “Who was he?” Kael looked directly at her. “He was the former guardian of the Moonstone.” “The Moonstone?” “A relic belonging to the oldest werewolf bloodline.” Liana stared at him. “What does it do?” “We don't know everything. But according to the records, it can recognize a person's true bloodline.” “Why would my father have it?” “He didn't.” Kael paused. “He was protecting it.” Liana looked down at the document. “What happened to him?” Kael's voice became quieter. “Twenty years ago, the Moonstone disappeared.” “And my parents?” “They disappeared at the same time.” Liana's face went pale. “You think they were killed because of it?” “I don't know.” “But you think they knew where it was.” “Yes.” Liana stepped away from the desk. “Then why was I sent here?” Kael didn't answer. Suddenly, a loud knock came from the door. Everyone turned. A guard entered. “Alpha, forgive the interruption.” “What is it?” “We found something near the eastern boundary.” Kael's eyes narrowed. “What?” The guard held out a small silver pendant. Liana recognized it immediately. She reached for it. “That belonged to my mother.” The room went silent. Kael stared at the pendant. “Where did you find it?” “Beside the forest.” Liana's hands trembled. Her mother had worn that pendant every day when she was a child. She had been told it was lost years ago. Kael carefully examined it. There was a symbol engraved on the back. The same symbol from the tree. Liana looked at Kael. “Someone wants me to find something.” Kael nodded slowly. “Or someone wants us to believe that.” Liana looked toward the dark window. For the first time, she wondered whether coming to the Black Moon Pack had been part of a plan from the beginning. And somewhere in the forest, hidden beneath the moonlight, someone was watching the mansion. Waiting.
