CHAPTER SIX
THE HEIR
The room remained completely silent.
Liana stared at the glowing symbol beneath her feet.
She couldn't move.
She couldn't even understand what she was seeing.
“What did you mean?” she whispered.
Kael's eyes remained fixed on the symbol.
“You're the heir.”
“The heir to what?”
“The Moonstone.”
Liana shook her head.
“No. That can't be true.”
Kael stepped closer.
“Why?”
“Because I'm nobody.”
His expression hardened.
“Don't say that.”
Liana looked at him.
“You don't understand. I grew up in a small village. I had no special powers. Nobody treated me like I was important.”
“Maybe they were hiding the truth from you.”
“Why would my family hide something like this?”
Kael didn't answer.
Ethan stepped forward.
“There may be a reason.”
Liana turned toward him.
“What reason?”
Ethan looked at Kael.
“Your parents may have been protecting you.”
Liana's eyes filled with questions.
“From who?”
Before Ethan could answer, the symbol beneath Liana's feet suddenly disappeared.
The pendant stopped glowing.
Everything returned to normal.
Liana grabbed the pendant.
“What just happened?”
Kael looked toward the door.
“We need to move.”
“Where?”
“My private chambers.”
Liana frowned.
“Why?”
“Because there are people in this house who may already know what you are.”
They left the study.
As they walked through the hallway, Liana noticed the guards watching them carefully.
She suddenly felt uncomfortable.
Kael seemed to notice.
“Stay close.”
“I am.”
They reached a heavily guarded corridor.
Two guards opened the doors.
Liana entered Kael's private sitting room.
Unlike the rest of the mansion, it was surprisingly simple.
Kael closed the doors behind them.
“Why is this place so heavily guarded?”
“Because it contains things I don't want anyone to access.”
“Like what?”
“Information.”
Liana sat down.
“Then tell me everything.”
Kael remained standing.
“Twenty years ago, the Vale family disappeared.”
“You already told me that.”
“There was more.”
Liana looked up.
“The Moonstone was stolen from the ancient council.”
Her eyes widened.
“Stolen?”
“Yes.”
“And my parents were blamed?”
“No.”
Kael paused.
“They were the ones who hid it.”
Liana stared at him.
“Why?”
“Because someone powerful wanted to use it.”
“Who?”
“We don't know.”
“Then how do you know my parents hid it?”
“Because they left a message.”
Kael walked toward a cabinet and removed an old envelope.
He handed it to Liana.
Her hands trembled as she opened it.
Inside was a faded piece of paper.
She recognized the handwriting immediately.
It belonged to her mother.
Liana's breath caught.
She read the first line.
If Liana is ever brought to the Black Moon Pack, it means the Moonstone has awakened.
Her eyes widened.
“Kael…”
He watched her carefully.
She continued reading.
Do not trust anyone who claims to know the truth about her. Not even the Alpha.
Liana slowly lowered the letter.
Her eyes met Kael's.
“You.”
Kael said nothing.
“My mother specifically warned me not to trust you.”
“I know.”
“And you still brought me here.”
“You were already being watched before you arrived.”
Liana stood.
“Then why didn't you tell me?”
“Because I didn't know who was watching.”
Suddenly, footsteps sounded outside the door.
Kael's expression changed.
He motioned for Liana to remain silent.
The footsteps stopped.
A voice came from the other side.
“Alpha?”
Kael didn't respond.
The door handle moved.
Someone was trying to enter.
Kael quietly stepped between Liana and the door.
Then a familiar voice whispered from the hallway.
“Alpha, you need to let her go.”
Liana recognized it immediately.
It was the mysterious stranger from the forest.
Kael's eyes narrowed.
“How did you get inside my estate?”
A quiet laugh came from the other side.
“That isn't important.”
Liana stepped closer.
“Who are you?”
Silence.
Then the stranger answered.
“Someone your mother trusted.”
Liana froze.
Kael's expression darkened.
“Open the door.”
The stranger laughed again.
“I wouldn't do that.”
Then the footsteps disappeared.
Liana stared at the door.
Her mother's warning echoed in her mind.
Do not trust anyone.
Not even the Alpha.
And suddenly, she realized she had no idea who was telling her the truth.
