Shiki growled, but otherwise kept quiet. Of all the tribe leaders, he understood me the best. Our two tribes were the restless ones. Like the Russians, the Chinese packs under Shiki’s rule kept challenging the Japanese leadership. The Chinese were less brutal and overt about it, but tribal in-fighting spelled bleak futures.
