Shaking out the confusion that was clearly displayed on my face, I tried not to focus on Aziel as his gaze felt like a warm blanket on this chilly autumn evening. I cleared my throat as I opened my mouth to say something but closed it as I was not sure what to say.
“What are you guys doing here?”, I finally asked after few minutes of silence. After the news I had just received, I needed to clear my thoughts so I just drove to the Point Betsie Lighthouse’s beach and sat one of the benches even though the chilly winds blowing on my face. I told nobody of where I would be since it was a spontaneous decision, so I was taken aback to see them here, I mean how would they know?
“A certain Stan from your home called the administration’s office saying they could not reach you since your phone is off. The staff went into quite a frenzy when they got to know that your mom passed away”, said Alistair. Yes, that would be the second pair of eyes staring at me, Alistair Rhodes, my freshly acquired bully at my new school, St. Andrews School. It had been barely six months since I had started here but he made my life a real living hell, which confused me as his sharp grey eyes held so much care at the moment while looking at me.
“Say something Nefi…”, pleaded Casimir and that was all I needed. Hearing my name come out of someone who really cared for me. I finally felt the tears build up and blur my vision. I suddenly realized that he was most probably the only one who would call me Nefi from now on since my mom was no more. The realization that I would no longer see her warm smile, her furrowed brows during our board game sessions and hear her laugh at my silly jokes finally hit me. With heaving chests and hiccupping sobs, I finally let out my tears. Casimir’s green eyes started filling up with tears of his own as he watched me cry. I could finally cry, I could finally start to mourn the loss of my mom.
“Finally…” I sobbed while dropping to my knees, my weight being too much to carry with all the news I had just received. Seeing this, all three of them reached me in few steps. They stood around me, unsure of how to handle me. Conscious of their presence around me, I lifted my head to look at them but everything went black at once.
