I sent Adrian a hesitant sideways glance from the corner of my eye, wary of the tension still obvious in the set of his shoulders even despite the grin he had sent my way earlier.
“Everything okay?” I asked, reaching out for the remote, and raising my hand up to mute the TV as he took steps deeper into the room.
He nodded absently, clearing his throat awkwardly once before sinking down in the love seat across from mine, staring pensively at a spot on the ground by his feet. “Yeah,” he said finally, sending me another smile from his spot that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Kain and I were just talking, about uh… stuff.” He finished lamely, shrugging one shoulder like he could care less.
