So far I hadn’t seen any ‘drugs’ or whatsoever in the building so I wasn’t really uneasy as before. Maybe stuff like that came at the end of the parties and by then we would’ve left before anything happened; I thought to myself. Gosh, I had never been to nay party before and I probably wanted to make myself feel better.
The smell of vodka was distinctive and the silly giggles of drunk people around was irritating. From somewhere across the room, I could also detect the rather tangy scent of m*******a.
I walked over to the snacks section but I was afraid to try the ‘punch’ because I suspected that it contained alcohol or something. Didn’t want to make a fool of myself either so I grabbed a packet of chips and went along because there where two dudes arguing across the table. Best to avoid any drama, I advised myself.
Everywhere I turned everyone was doing exactly what Lilith had said I should. Having fun.
Everyone except me that is.
“Nova?”, a familiar voice called from behind me.
“Yvonne!”, I said, half surprised.
“What are you doing here?”, she queried, also equally shocked to see me.
“I could ask you the same thing.”
“I’m at a party, that’s what I’m doing.”, she replied in amusement.
“So am I, Yvonne. So am I”, I nodded.
“Well, am I not surprised out of my pants. h9w did you even get out here. What made you decide to come to the party in the first place? Honestly, I’m so shocked.”
“I’m surprised at myself, don’t worry. Anyways, Lilith brought me here. Said she wanted company because she had a bad feeling about this. Is Tasha here too?”, I ask quickly, looking around eagerly.
“No, obvi. You know how she and those cheerleading girlies don’t get along. So yeah. Though I must say, I am happy you’re coming out of your shell a little. That’s great.”, she smiled.
“Mmmm, not doing much, but yeah.” I replied. I was quite sad that Tasha wasn’t here. Some company would’ve been nice. At least Yvonne was.
“Hey, you know what? I could show you around and introduce you to some- “, she begun to say before some person behind cut her off.
“Yvonne! Oh, my God! You won’t believe this. Ricky got into a fight with Hutson! It’s really bad.”
Yvonne was immediately distracted. “Are you serious?”
“Of course, yes! Its happening in the yard right now.” And then she grabbed her hand and literally dragged her away.
Yvonne looked back apologetically and mouthed “I’ll be back”, and then was lost in the crowd.
I just smiled sadly and gave her a little wave.
Debbie, the one who had interrupted, had barely noticed me. How was I supposed to have fun when I was barely noticeable from an arm’s length away?
Sighing, I resigned to my lonesome fate and begun to walk around. I decided to look around the house a bit. To be honest the place was really impressive with high ceilings, chandeliers and all.
I went up the staircase. No one even noticed.
There were many rooms and a lot of corners and I didn’t even think I would be able to survey them all before the party ended.
Down below I could hear shrieks and laughter and I felt left out. I would have been more entertained if I had been with Maeve back at home.
There were a lot of bedrooms, each with its own different aesthetic. Fluffy pillows, large beds, the tiled floors; everything was just like a work of art.
All of a sudden, I stopped short. Was that-? …. Moaning? I listened for a while until I was convinced. I was quickly taken back. I didn’t expect anyone to be up here. The soft moan of a girl came from one of the doors of the rooms to the left and I quickly turned in the other direction. Oddly, the surrounding area hadn’t been littered with cups or anything. I didn’t come across any other people up here either.
Then finally, only one door was left. I opened it curiously. It was dark just like the other rooms and I could barely see inside but I was afraid to turn on the lights in case it spooked up an alarm or something. Just to be on the safe side.
I used my hands in exchange for my poor eyesight and the bad lightening. The room was pretty empty, compared to the previous ones. I discovered some sort of curtain dividing the room; spiking my curiosity even more and making it seem mysterious; Beckoning to you to figure out what was behind it. Why would you have a curtain dividing a room in the first place especially with this many rooms in the house. It wasn’t my house but still; I did want to know.
Pushing away the soft material, it took forever for my eyes to adjust to the darkness before a gasp escaped my lips.
