Chapter Three

Rohan adjusted the sleeve of his shirt as he stood in front of the mirror in his room. The room, just like his living room, was luxurious and decorated with the most expensive material in the country. The fabric of his shirt sat perfectly on his arm, but he still smoothed it down, more out of habit than need. Everything about him looked put together and in control, but his mind was not as calm as his appearance. He was thinking about some new information that Elara had related to him later the previous night. But for a brief moment, his thoughts drifted back to the previous day and the girl. He frowned and thought it was time to let go of the various ideas rushing into his head. He focused on what Elara said over the phone instead. "There's intel about someone trespassing into our borders. I think we should discuss this potential problem in the meeting tomorrow," Elara had said. It was strange. Trespassing? Rohan was wise enough to believe what Elara told him, because she was his Omega and was always right on important matters like this. He had heard rumors of a rogue wolf from the pack going missing, but he made sure to double the security of the wolves in the pack, so what could this mean? Rohan wanted to suspect the girl from yesterday, as she was a new face and he knew when new people entered the city, but he also knew that just like the wolves, humans occupied the city too. And the humans did not know that they were living amongst wolves. So, it could not be that girl. The last time the borders were trespassed was twenty-five years ago, when he was a child and his father was the Alpha. Since then, their security has been super strong. So, this news was really disturbing to him. He ruffled his hair as he liked to do, and picked up his car keys. He checked the time on his watch. It said 6:47pm. He had only thirteen minutes to be there. He knew he would be late, but he was not worried. Some of the enforcers usually arrived almost an hour late and the meeting normally waited till they arrived. He had only gotten to his living room when a servant came to inform him of a visitor outside. "Let him in," Rohan said to him. Kane entered, fully dressed up in a suit and tie even though the outfit was not necessary for the occasion. "Leaving now? Elara called me to let me know they'd be starting without us if she arrived before time," Kane said as he strolled in. Rohan nodded. "This matter must really be serious after all. We should be fast. I was already heading out." They stepped out together, into Rohan's garage where he chose his black Bentley from his multiple cars and they both got in. The ride to the clearing was almost too far for Rohan. In the past, before everything became modernized and the wolves had to hide among humans, the clearing for the meeting used to be much closer to his father's residence. Now, with their disguise came so many hassles such as this one. Kane moved forward and put on some music to ease the silence in the car. He wondered why Rohan decided to drive when he had chauffeurs at his disposal. His mind was certainly on something, Kane thought. "Are you worried about the trespasser?" Kane asked after a while of singing along to the music he put on. Rohan nodded. "The last time I heard about a trespasser, we were all children. Now, our parents are mostly dead and this is coming up..." Kane sighed heavily. "Do you think we should look up all the new residents in the city?" "I think we should hear from Elara first," Rohan said and Kahe nodded. Rohan trusted his Omega so much and Kane knew that. Soon they got to an alley where Rohan pulled his car over. The two men got down from the car and walked their way down to the forest where the meeting was to be held. They arrived running and completely changed into their wolf forms. The Ashenwood wolves were significantly large and maintained the build of ancient wolves because they had not bred with humans in the course of their lives. Rohan's wolf was the largest and most intimidating. He was as large as a tree and dark as the night, clearly the Alpha of the pack. His glowing green eyes distinguished him from the other wolves with reddened or brown eyes. When he spoke, his growl sounded like an angry wind. The meeting kicked off immediately. The area had been scanned carefully to know that it was clear. Elara spoke first. "I got information from the intelligence unit about the presence of a harmful silver material that could pass for a weapon in our territory." Elara started. "Anyone can have silver material these days, Omega," Rishi, an enforcer, said. "We need to remember that we now live among humans. This is no longer the old Ashenwood where we had no humans amongst us." "Are you saying that Elara is just bluffing?" Rohan asked him. "No, Alpha," Rishi said apologetically. Elara continued. "Yes, we live among humans now and anyone can have silver, but what was detected was not a small amount that could pass for jewelry or adornment, but something that we should be careful about." "Did they get an identity?" Rohan asked. *** Part of Lyra's plan was to get to know every nook and cranny of the city. If she was going to move around this city without drawing attention, she needed to know it well. In order to achieve that, she decided to drive through the city at night, while socializing during the day. And so, that night she decided to start her venture by locating the forests and outskirts of the city using her map. She got dressed in simple shorts and a tank top and got moving. The road stretched into a darker, quieter part of the area as she drove farther away from the buildings which had now given way to trees and open space. The farther she drove, the more the environment changed. It made Lyra more curious about what she would find if she did find something. The thought of what she would find made her focus her senses as she drove. She sniffed for any unusual scent, listened for even the faintest howl, and looked deeply into the darkness for anything that could escape her. Soon, she was completely isolated from the city. She could see that she was getting close to a forest. She amped up her speed a little out of impatience, and drove directly in front of something that freaked her all the way out immediately. *** Elara was about to reply to Rohan when a piercing light ran through the middle of the gathering. The wolves turned in shock to see a car blaring its lights at them. Lyra was so shocked to have run into these many wolves at once. In all her years of being a werewolf hunter, she had only fought with four wolves at once at most. These wolves were more than she could count. And not only were they that much, they were the biggest she had ever seen. Her excitement made her clumsily hit the lights on them. After that split second of slipping out of character, she put off the light. But to be sure she was not dreaming, she put on the lights again. To her surprise, the wolves had disappeared. Nobody was there. Lyra immediately began reversing her car to drive away. She knew she was either in danger now or she was being followed. Either way, she had to run to safety first and find a way to call for help. She had only successfully reversed and was about to speed off when a voice brought her to a halt. Someone was approaching with a torch pointed directly at her. Lyra prepared herself for a fight while waiting for the person to approach her. The figure looked recognizable as it got closer to her, but Lyra maintained her guard. She had no time to guess who it was now. But the figure got directly in front of her door and knocked. Lyra wound down her window and froze in place when she saw that the figure was the same man she had bumped into the previous day. "You?"
