His Touch, Her Anchor

698 Words
“Aria!” Kael’s voice cut through the chaos—but this time, it didn’t feel distant. It reached me. Through the darkness. Through the storm inside me. My body was shaking violently, shadows raging uncontrollably around me, tearing through the room like a living nightmare. But then— His arms wrapped around me. Tight. Unyielding. Real. “Come back to me,” he whispered against my ear. The moment his skin touched mine… Something shifted. The storm faltered. “I… I can’t…” I gasped, my hands gripping his shirt as another wave of power surged through me. “It’s too much—” “Yes, you can,” he said firmly. “You’re stronger than this.” My head fell against his chest, his heartbeat loud and steady beneath my ear. Thump. Thump. Thump. It grounded me. Pulled me back. “You feel that?” he murmured softly. “That’s me. Focus on me.” Another wave hit— But this time… It didn’t take me under. The shadows flickered violently… then slowed. The room went still. Everyone watched. Waiting. “Good girl…” Kael breathed. The words sent an unexpected warmth through me, cutting through the lingering fear. “I’ve got you,” he continued, his hand sliding gently up my back, soothing, steady. “No matter what you are… you’re mine. And I’m not letting you fall.” My breath steadied. The darkness around me began to dissolve, fading like mist under sunlight. And just like that— It stopped. Silence. Heavy. Unbelievable. I was still standing. Still breathing. Still… me. A shaky exhale left my lips as my body finally gave in, collapsing slightly—but Kael caught me instantly. “I told you,” he murmured, softer now. My fingers curled into his shirt, not wanting to let go. Not anymore. “I thought I was going to hurt you,” I whispered. “You couldn’t,” he replied without hesitation. I pulled back slightly, searching his face. “You don’t know that.” “I do.” His thumb brushed gently across my cheek, wiping away tears I hadn’t even realized had fallen. “I trust you,” he said. Those three words— They hit deeper than anything else. No fear. No doubt. Just… trust. And it terrified me. Because I wanted to believe him. A soft scoff broke the moment. Selene. “How touching,” she said coldly, though her eyes betrayed something darker now. “The monster and her Alpha.” Kael’s entire body tensed again. “Say that again,” he warned. But I spoke first. “I’m not a monster.” My voice was quiet— But steady. Stronger than before. Selene’s gaze snapped to me, surprised. Then she smiled. “Oh?” she said. “Then what are you?” I held her gaze. And for the first time— I didn’t look away. “I don’t know yet,” I admitted. “But I’m not weak.” Something flickered in Kael’s expression. Pride. Selene’s smile slowly faded. “Careful,” she said softly. “Confidence doesn’t suit you.” “Maybe it scares you,” I shot back. Silence fell. Sharp. Tense. Dangerous. Then— Selene turned, her expression unreadable now. “This isn’t over,” she said. “Not even close.” And with that— She walked out. But this time… She didn’t look victorious. The moment the doors shut, my strength finally gave out completely. My knees buckled— But Kael was already there. Always there. He lifted me effortlessly into his arms. “I’ve got you,” he repeated quietly. My head rested against his shoulder, exhaustion crashing over me—but beneath it… Warmth. Safety. Him. “Kael…” I murmured softly. “Yes?” I hesitated. Then whispered— “Don’t let me become something I can’t control.” His grip tightened slightly. “You won’t,” he said. But his voice… Held a promise. And a warning. “Because if the world turns against you…” His lips brushed lightly against my forehead. “I’ll burn it down first.” And this time— I believed him.
