“You must be mistaken.”
Selene’s voice sliced through the silence like a blade.
“This… girl?” she laughed coldly. “She’s a servant.”
Every eye in the hall burned into me.
Judging.
Mocking.
Waiting.
Alpha Kael didn’t let go of me.
Not even for a second.
“If anyone is mistaken,” he said, voice calm but deadly, “it’s you.”
The air shifted.
Power rolled off him in waves, forcing even the strongest wolves to lower their gaze.
Selene stiffened, but she didn’t back down.
“I am your rightful Luna,” she snapped. “Our families arranged—”
“I don’t care,” he cut her off.
The words hit like thunder.
A ripple of shock spread across the hall.
“You don’t get to decide my mate,” he continued, his grip tightening on me. “The Moon Goddess already has.”
My heart pounded so hard it hurt.
This was insane.
Dangerous.
“Say something,” Selene hissed at me. “Tell him this is a lie.”
I opened my mouth.
But nothing came out.
Because the truth was already burning inside me.
The bond.
The pull.
The way my wolf was already reaching for him.
“I… I can’t,” I whispered.
Her expression darkened instantly.
Hatred.
Pure and sharp.
“You think you’ve won?” she said quietly, stepping closer. “Do you even understand what you are?”
I swallowed.
“A distraction,” she continued. “A mistake. And mistakes can be corrected.”
A chill ran down my spine.
But before I could react—
Kael stepped in front of me.
Shielding me completely.
“She is mine,” he said.
Three simple words.
Possessive.
Absolute.
Terrifying.
“And if anyone,” his voice dropped lower, more dangerous, “tries to touch her… they answer to me.”
Silence.
Heavy. Suffocating.
Selene smiled.
But it wasn’t a happy smile.
It was a promise.
“This isn’t over,” she said softly. “A Luna is not chosen by scent alone.”
Her gaze flicked to me.
“You’ll have to survive this pack first.”
Then she turned and walked away.
The tension snapped.
Whispers exploded around us.
Scandal.
Disaster.
War.
I could barely breathe.
“Alpha…” I started.
“Kael,” he corrected gently, finally looking down at me.
His expression softened.
But his eyes?
Still burning.
“You’re shaking,” he murmured.
“Of course I am!” I snapped. “Your entire pack hates me!”
A small smile touched his lips.
“Let them.”
My breath caught.
“Because anyone who dares come for you…” he leaned closer, voice dropping to a dangerous whisper,
“I will destroy.”
And somehow…
That scared me more than Selene ever could.
