Chapter 5

She knew she had enough time to move her piece. Hell, she had all the time in the world as long as it was still her turn. Her attention laid upon a teal-eyed male, whether she liked it or not. Aware of the fact the consequences will come back to haunt. And aware of the fact she was cheating throughout the game. There was not anything at all to keep track of. She blended in well with the rest of the colors easy enough, flowing through with the brush eventually meeting its place. The room is spacious, as if being in a still ocean not like it has ever. Where everybody was facing is a higher ledge, up there was the main surprise. Mr. Atticus, smiling brightly as he played his big role flawlessly. He covered up a small mishap argument to save his own son with many spotlights shined on him. As she made it halfway to her acquaintance she stopped to take one last glimpse. To see his smile right through. He had the message, he knew the message. Well enough to make the company move abruptly. There, she smiled. Her red un-cracked lips bringing attention. Friends helped to bring him over, each one that wanted a private conversation including the fat lean man. All those she hadn't met. Just a hopeless habit referring to strangers as friends. The music began playing once more after a somewhat short break. Everyone started to move onto their partners, taking their hand to invite them to dance, leaving a few older individuals behind. All which has once danced before. Leaving along with her and her acquaintance alone. "Shall we dance? It wouldn't take much long." She spoke, smiling with her mischievous lips. He agreed, giving a hand, her taking his invitation. Right after he hesitated. He not only needed to look good but also be with women, an easy target. His expression thickened, lost in thought. She caught it with the corner of her eyes. "Pardon me? Is there something troubling you?" She asked. "No, there isn't. I'm feeling a bit claustrophobic here..." He said, stopping in his tracks. She had led him far enough to link her arms on the back of his neck, pulling in close. Perfume reeked, shiny colored red and a menacing smile that managed to send shivers up his spine. Unforgettable. "Oh no.. Where shall we dance then? Outside is too chilly.." She whispered. He almost smiled. She grabbed two glasses of wine from a nearby maid, and handed one to him. "But I'd love to see the moon shining bright, don't you think so?" He chuckled, taking a sip. "Yes.. I do have to agree." Down the spacious hallway of paintings and windows, they reached the room, As if it were to be a backup space for only two to dance, past twelve. The music was there, faint but enough. Her mood changed the whole situation and they danced for who knows how long. The party hadn't ended yet, only starting to begin once an alarming glass shattering broke the mood. She gasped, pale faced as she covered her wide open mouth. The glass shattering wasn't coming from the main room but the room the two were in aside with a palm sized rock. "The neighborhood kids...?" About to go up for a closer look, she came along, holding by the sleeve of the other, shaking. He didn't know anything, not even a thing or two to protect himself in situations like those. From far away it looked like any regular scene, but it wasn't. The rock was bigger than any child's palm. The other rocks lay inside of the room, ones he hadn't noticed earlier with a huge enough entrance through the window. "It's terrible... Had we been bothering the neighborhood kids enough they couldn't sleep tight?" She lets go of his sleeve, unnoticed. "No... I don't believe so." He mumbled, furrowing his brow as his thoughts became fuzzy. He couldn't say anything-no, he wasn't able to say anything. Her smile kept replaying over and over then he collapsed. 'Is it weird to see two men dance together?' Strangely, the sentence enough made him frustrated. To forget his problems, not what was in front. Light headed, he struggled in keeping consciousness, knowing fully well he was defenseless. The woman was still standing there, looking down on him as if he were a peasant. "What are you trying to do?.." "You don't need to know, birthday boy." She said, eyeing the place. Not too long, men in black came along, carrying the teal-blue eyed out the window, unnoticed by such a crowd. All clear somehow it was. Though was it necessary to do that? She pursued her lips. "Oh my god!" Loud screaming were heard. The woman in red waited until it was her turn to leave through the window but still took one last glimpse at the end of the room. Widening her eyes. Someone caught them, the last masked man the teal-eyed male talked to this night. Although he wasn't masked. "I knew it.." Everybody there froze in place. Lucil, she knew and she couldn't stop herself from shaking. She wasn't able to escape with him there but leave the rest to the others. "What the hell are you doing with the window?" His ragged breathing slowed down momentarily as he made his way, slowly, to the woman. Feeling as if dominated by the other's height, a smile almost came over her face while she thought confidently of herself. "Please..!" The message they didn't get. "Help me.. I think someone's trying to attack me..." She thought about pulling up close, like the last time except her face were to be buried in his chest. But Lucilio pushed back, his eyes focused on the windows. Atlas, he saw one of them. Even worse, the one that was holding the blacked-out body. Who was usually living as a shell of a human itself, finally, looked alive. "What- CARTER! Wake up!" He yelled, alarming yet the body did not flinch at all. Almost lifeless seeing how the arms and legs were dangling all around. With a few alarmed individuals who ran over seeing the scene. The man in black disappeared, without a trace as he blended in the whispering bushes which gradually grew faint. "See? I told you-They moved onto kidnapping my partner-" Cut off once again. With a striking glare, chilling down to the bone. "Don't even think that'll work on me. I caught you with these eyes and I know this is real." Lucilio said. She froze. One of the individuals who were there at the scene rushed over. The maid, Hannah, stood in between. She stole a glimpse at the woman in red, giving her a long look before at Lucilio. They both were then fighting as if a couple, and she took Lucilio's side. What were the orders? It was too risky to ask for help now. They cannot fight for that long by the way the woman in red pleaded her innocence off to Hannah. Boldly. Keeping a promise to Hannah, even going as far to do the pinky linking was too much. But there was not any time to explain. Out of instinct, he rushed out, stepping on the cracked glass on the way. Lucilio was doubtful but still had the feeling Carter was near. They could still, still be hiding. Anywhere. As long as he is alive it doesn't matter. __________________________________ He Knows Time Is Up.
