Dale was getting close to opening another portal. “A few more calculations. Then we’ll be ready.”
Hugh worried for the safety of his parents and sister once they departed. His and Dale’s reappearance seemed to have stirred up much strife in their own house, but perhaps it had always been that way.
“We must ensure we’re not followed back to Earth, even if that means shutting the portal from the other side,” Hugh advised.
“Most of mine don’t stay open long, so I think it will be alright. But they’re the dickens to open again. Perhaps when I’m on Earth, I can make something to detect ones that are already open.” His brother paced his room, thinking. “Though I’m not sure how.” He put his head in his hands. “Oh, I wish Jared wasn’t so bad off. I could really use him now.”
