48 Shane sped down the road toward the Santa Catalinas, determined to keep the girls safe and outrun the assholes who had attacked them. The mountain range rose majestically from the floor of the Sonora desert, its craggy peaks hovering above them like an island in the sky. They’d made their way to the foothills when he realized that Fiona was on fire again, and it was spreading to the interior of his car. “s**t!” he yelled and pulled over to the side of the desolate highway. “Everybody out!” They jumped out of the truck.
