29 “Hugh,” Kat purred from somewhere next to him. He inched closer, longing to feel her lean body against his, to bury his face in her midnight hair and breathe in her scent. The dream shifted then, and he was racing through the lower floor of the castle, his footsteps clambering down the stone corridor. They were followed by a second pair. “You can’t hide forever,” Adirah’s voice echoed after him. I can sure try, he thought, then ducked into a back hallway, cut through the kitchens, and out the back door to the stables. If he could get to the griffins, he’d be safe. At least safer than he was around her… His arms and legs pumps harder, his breath catching at his side. He was suddenly slammed to the ground, head first. Hugh turned his throbbing face and spat out dirt and blood.
