Kat blew the dust off her laptop and opened it, then logged in.
It felt like ages since she’d used the thing. She quickly brought up Instant Messenger to find several old messages from Bert the Destroyer.
A tinge of guilt curled through her. Bert’s mind had been wiped with the others after the incident in Chicago where Hugh had disappeared. She’d avoided contacting him ever since.
She read through the brief messages, then launched into one of her own.
“Bert, are you there? It’s Kat. I need your help.”
